Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
But I also don't believe in powering through (anymore). It's fine to leave things if you're not feeling it. Refill the well. Depending on a person's particular flavor of neurodivergence ๐, you can always come back to it. Good luck! It's is an uncomfortable state to be in, but growing is good!
So is there something still left in that "old" project that a viewer, player, reader would also need to experience to meet me where I feel like I am now? Or want to go next? Sometimes I can hack my brain into believing that the old idea is part of the shiny new one. Find motivation there.
just getting started in gamedev, but when that happens with other long-term art and narrative projects, I try to recognize how working on that project is probably what got me and my inspirations to grow and shift. For me, all creative projects are stepping stones to the next
I read this the first time around and it was one of those pieces that stuck with me and I thought about often. I did NOT know it was published in Unwinnable! But that makes sense. Iโve been impressed with so much writing in that publication. Read and support!
The hole in the ozone layer was actually very serious and a global effort allowed it to recover. Y2K WAS actually a serious problem and people worked countless hours to make sure nobody even noticed. Air and water pollution was catastrophic in many places and incredible effort reversed that damage.
your moment of calm: sea potatoes! potatoes of the sea!

*Wife does a fairly complex section of Tomb Raider III set in a cave housing a T-rex nest without killing the T-rex who is supposed to be a boss*
Me: "It's cool that you can do that without killing the T-rex."
Her: "She is a mama! She has babies! I'm not killing her."
Games are cool sometimes.
When I went to Tehran in 2018 for a game conference I hung out with game nerds, music weirdos, and queer folks with tattoos and colored hair, just like I do here. We got vegetarian food and watched goofy uncles play basketball in the park. I sure hope they can live to see a better day.

I know! The first time I saw them I thought what is this ABOMINATION?! This glitch in the Matrix? This animated overlay over a perfectly normal waterfowl scene?
Now I love those feet BECAUSE they inspire that reaction in me
two images of the American coot. One of the round black bird with white beak and HORRIFICALLY proportioned oversized bluish feet. Second image is close-up on weirdly webbed feet, three round, fleshy segments on each toe
WONDERFUL! but didnโt manage to capture the horror of the cootโs feet

a blenny emerges from a hole in the rock. it is a blue fish poking out its little tongue. above its eyes are little fin-fringes that look like extremely expressive eyebrows currently pointing straight up
there's not an animal called a 'Blenny' that looks like this, I refuse to believe it, that's something a sci-fi writer made up in the 50s

Not a problem! Word gets around! Thanks for featuring my story here and youโre right, khลrรฉล is a wonderful publication. They published two pretty weird stories of mine that wouldnโt have found a home or guidance anywhere else. Theyโre something special!
