If you want to read some historical fiction about this era, I highly recommend Vikram Sethβs A Suitable Boy. Itβs a bit soapy. Okay, itβs very soapy, but itβs very fun. And substantive.
If you're at the airport and Kristi Noem is doing the ominous little message from the TSA screens, you no longer have to do anything she says. Leave your laptop in the case, whatever.
When I was a bit older, rather than ladybird books, my father would read me poems. Many of them committed to memory now. This was one of his favorite poems, and my favorite Yeats.
The Lake Isle Of Innisfree.
I follow you for gems like this. Thank you for sharing.
It came out pretty as a picture βΊοΈ. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy!
Ignore. That users profile says theyβre just here to do bothsidesism. π
If I block you donβt I lose the ability to see the conversation? I want to show it to someone b/c recounting it wonβt do it justice. If I could block you and keep it, I would. Try blocking me. Maybe itβll still let me see my replies.
Reminds me of when Putin asked to try on Robert Krafts Super Bowl ring & sauntered off with it. π€ When he came back he appealed to the Obama White House & they told him nothing they could do & to consider it a diplomatic act & patriotic gift in service to his countryπ«

I wrote you a very conciliatory note and this is how you respond. Please leave me alone. You were right about everything. π―. I was wrong. Thank you for enlightening and teaching me law. Could have saved a lot of money getting my degrees on bluesky.
Can we agree to disagree on the firing (I think thatβs a perfectly reasonable position) and stop w/ the friendly fire b/c factional infighting doesnβt further the cause of democracy.
Look, thatβs totally fair. A lot of people think he should have removed him. MG hired a brilliant SC, gave him staff & a huge budget. Smith secured all the indictments for 1/6 & docs case and SCOTUS made it moot. You canβt charge someone w/ a crime if the court says itβs not a crime.
For the last time: MG appointed Smith. Smith investigated & got indictments, was prepping for trial. SCOTUS said Prez has immunity. Canβt try someone if what they did is not considered illegal. Youβre misdirecting your anger. Go yell at voters & SCOTUS.
I care about complying with the law. Itβs literally a job requirement for me. POTUS can direct his AG to do a lot. Pressuring his AG to target an opponent would be abuse of power & violation of due process. Firing him while heβs prosecuting his son would not look good.
Like I said, was having a conversation w/ someone else. You interjected & demanded I talk about what you wanted to talk about. You butt in. I count 7 replies mentioning SCOTUS or Jack Smith. Sent 3, want more? Iβm really done w/ this convo. Iβve already said you win. Youβre right. Itβll be great π.
Correct. 18 months. Thank you for pointing that out. And there are a few Supreme Court cases. So the cases didnβt originate from AG independence but the need for AG independence is mentioned in opinions in all those cases. Cornell law is a great resource.
Why do you get to dictate what conversation I should be having w/ someone else. You interjected. Start your own. Hereβs my very 1st post. And itβs ending w/me talking about MG. This conversation is not making me smarter or adding value. So again, I concede. Do things ur way. The Nixon way. Godspeed
OMG I thought he died at first π±
John Mitchell, Nixonβs AG who served 18 years probably disagrees. Again, while not explicitly, SCOTUS has made clear that AG should be independent & a POTUS ordering them to investigate someone is illegal. Nixon received a preemptive pardon but was going to be prosecuted for that among other things
I gave you a direct quote. Iβm still waiting for you to show me where I said the 2 were equivalent. U havenβt b/c u canβt b/c I didnβt. I already said do it your way. Godspeed. But FYI, if you think an AG shouldnβt be independent of POTUS & Congress & should defy SCOTUS, youβre not team democracy.
Quote from u: Garland didn't do his job. Full stop. Why are you pretending this is equivalent to what Trump is doing?
Let me explain: If I want you prosecuted b/c you like lollipops the DA will say no. Not illegal. Smith was going to trial & SCOTUS said liking lollipops is not a crime. No charges.
This conversation was about the AG & itβs my conversation, ur just opining. You can start your own. Dβu know what a world of shit weβd be in right now w/ no filibuster. Direct your anger toward me b/c I think the AG should be independent of POTUS b/cβ¦ democracy. I conceded already. Do it your way.
Special counsel Jack Smith was given a team of 60+ lawyers by Garland. He secured indictments in classified docs & 1/6 election interference. Was prepping for trial. SCOTUS said canβt prosecute b/c it was an official act during presidency. Alternatively he could have invented his own court.
When did I say it was equivalent? Pray, tell. Must have been dreaming that MG appointed special counsel Jack Smith to investigate Trump for 1/6 & classified docs resulting in indictments & arraignments, headed to trial when SCOTUS ruled presidential immunity deeming it moot.
You win. POTUS should fire AGs who donβt prosecute the people they want them to. Not like thatβs undermining democracy & SCOTUS has already weighed in. Even Sessions who I thought had no bottom said that was a bridge too far & got fired. Do it ur way. Independence & separation of powers was cool.
Of course he could fire him. Served at his pleasure. Making investigating the people he wanted prosecuted a condition of the job is the same thing. SCOTUS, not explicitly, has enforced limits. US v Nixon, Morrison v Olson. Appears political - he was investigating his son. Bad for DOJ morale.
