Statement from Northern Super League and Canadian Women’s National Team Supporter Groups We, the undersigned supporters’ groups of the Northern Super League and the Canadian Women’s National Team, stand in unequivocal solidarity with trans athletes and the broader trans community. The recent announcements by the English FA and Scottish FA to ban transgender individuals from participating in their football programs are discriminatory, harmful, and run counter to the very spirit of the game we love. Football is for everyone– no matter your gender identity. As supporters’ groups, we believe in building communities rooted in inclusion, equality, and joy. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. Nonbinary people belong. They all deserve the right to play, compete, and thrive in sports without exclusion or prejudice. We reject policies that target and marginalize trans athletes under the guise of fairness. There is no fairness in fear...
There is no justice in exclusion. There is no pride in sport when they don’t welcome everyone. We are proud to support a league and national team already committed to equality, gender recognition of its players and setting an example for others to follow. We call on the Canadian Soccer Association, the Northern Super League, and all affiliated clubs to reaffirm their commitment to inclusion and make clear that trans people will always be welcome on our pitches, in our stands, and in our communities.
