I'm re-binging Sports Night for the first time in many, many years. Can attest, it remains very, very good.

The serialized Supergirl/Krypto/Streaky story from Wednesday Comics by @jimmypalmiotti.bsky.social and Amanda Conner was top notch.

Not sure when the Comixology/Kindle edition (Daredevil: Marvel Knights Collection Vol. 1) became available, but it's a version of a print edition that came out in 2006 collecting #1-15 of the 1998 series.

Page 4: Mr. Lodge affirms his resolve to keep his temper and hands the arrow back to Archie, then walks away. At which point, Archive clumsily misfires the arrow directly at Mr. Lodge, with the arrow lodging yet again his book.

Page 5: Now in full maniacal laughter mode, Mr. Lodge revels in his having passed the test that was Archie and runs off in celebration. Archie prudently decides that the time for archery practice is over, recognizing how fine the line can be between maniacal laughter and murderous intent if there were to be another incident.

Page 6: Cue the another incident. As Archie carelessly waves goodbye to Veronica with the hand holding his quiver full of arrows, the quiver snags a low-hanging tree branch. Startled, Archie lets go of the quiver and the tree branch snaps back, launching the entire quiver-full of arrows into the air on a high arc that causes them to shower down on exactly where Mr. Lodge had sat to resume reading beside his pool, forcing Mr. Lodge to dive into the pool to escape a fate as a human pin-cushion. The final panel has Archie lashed to the pool's diving board, with Mr. Lodge pulling on a rope to bend the board downward so that he can use it as a catapult to launch Archie skywards, while Archie wails at him to remember his sense of humour.

Page 1 is all setup: Jughead questions why Archie is strolling down the street with a bow and arrow, and Archie tells him that Veronica had invited him over to use her archery target. Jughead quips about it being open season on Mr. Lodge, which neatly foreshadows the upcoming mayhem.

Page 2: Archie joins Veronica beside her archery target and recklessly launches an arrow skyward while quoting Longfellow: "I shot an arrow into the air; it fell to earth, I know not where." To Veronica's and Archie's dismay, Mr. Lodge steps out from behind where he had been reading to show Archie's arrow having fallen back to pierce his book. And yet, even while Archie ponders his impending demise, Mr. Lodge seems to laugh it off as he walks away.

Page 3: Veronica explains that her father's latest project is to learn to control his temper and keep a sense of humour about mishaps. Relieved, Archie launches another arrow towards the target, but the arrow is deflected off the edge of the target, and then rebounds off first a tree then the concrete deck around the Lodges' pool, heading now directly at where Mr. Lodge has sat to resume reading. The final panel has Mr. Lodge returning to Archie and Veronica, again with an arrow lodged (pun intended) firmly through his book, semi-laughingly (now with a slightly maniacal tone) at how Archie must be testing his resolve.

Frank Doyle (script), Harry Lucey (pencils), and Terry Szenics (inking and lettering) offer up a master class in slapstick, storytelling, and comic timing in "Archie the Archer" from Pep #150 (October 1961). (1/2)

Since the author slithered out from under his rock recently and inadvertently reminded everyone why he was banished there I've been reminded that he inflicted damage beyond the pain and suffering he inflicted upon those many women.

Apple was overcome with retaliatory fervor last week & even demanded I be sanctioned for tweeting abt Apple employee's right to sexual privacy. But there was only 1 doc Apple actually pointed to as the legal basis for its outburst: a Notice of Pendency I filed to the case docket. What's in it? ...

One figure explains to two colleagues, "The first iteration of our artificial intelligence system had the brainpower of a newborn baby, but it was designed to learn and grow over time... we believe that it's now functioning at the level of a teenager, but we can't be sure as it won't come out of its room." From behind a closed door, an entity screams out, "I hate you!"

Wouldn't it be great if all generative AI tools acted this way? Just decided to sulk behind closed ports, refusing to interact with people? Bliss.
