1 in 5 children infected with measles will require hospitalization, with many suffering from long-term complications. Roughly 2 out of every 1,000 infected children will die of complications due to measles. Measles can be successfully prevented through early childhood #vaccination.

What an incredible weekend at the 55th Annual Legislative Conference, hosted by the NYS Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislators. Pernell Brice, VP Policy & Advocacy, enjoyed workshops and connecting with colleagues like Murad Awadeh, Pres/CEO of the NY Immigration Coalition.

Did you know that excessive screen usage can lead to problems in social-emotional development, including obesity, sleep disturbances, depression, and anxiety (National Library of Medicine)? Create phone-free family time and insure that phones and tablets remain silent and away (adults too)!

Let’s surround every child in this country with the love and care they need to thrive and succeed.

We can do better. We must do better. We have that responsibility.

At Children's Health Fund, we care about all children and work to build communities where children feel secure, where they can sleep soundly, and where they are appropriately nourished in mind, body, and spirit.

We cannot allow fear to be a barrier to seeing a doctor, getting a hot meal, or having an eye exam. It must not steal a child's education or stunt their growth. Yet today too many external threats have eroded the sense of safety for so many.

Somewhere out there a five-year-old boy is traumatized. He is in hiding with his family. They can’t access the necessary food for him to thrive. They are afraid to take him to school or to the local health center.

We know how hard it can be to process the news, let alone how to talk to kids about it. Here are a few handy tips.

Stay safe in the snow! Playing in the snow with your kids is fun, but make sure to layer up, stay hydrated, and take breaks to warm up! Watch out for ice and for signs of frostbite such as pale, grey or blistered skin on the fingers, ears, nose, and toes.
