STINGRAY TAKES UP ATTACK POSITION! WASP'S BATTLE PLAN AT first light today, Stingray slipped quietly from Marineville Harbour and headed out to sea. Four miles off shore, the WASP patrol vessel made contact with the robot towing ship Yig before diving beneath the waves. According to Marineville tower, Stingray has taken up attack position in a carefully laid plan to smash Titan's new weapon, the mechanical flying bombs. What the plan involves is a closely guarded secret, but Commander Shore is aboard the new WASP vessel Sea Leopard and waiting to put to sea at the first sign of action in the area. Full report pages 4 and 5. Fireball in Crash landing THE fantastic theft of the Electrode 909, World Space Patrol's new fighter, lurched from the daring to the deadly today when Fireball XL5 was dragged on to the unexplored planet of Mellates today. According to space station M12, Colonel Zodiac had closed in on the Electrode and fired home magnetic clamps, but the three astronovices aboard the fighter had already lost control of the ship, which was plunging toward Mellates, caught in the planet's fierce gravitational pull. Before Fireball could release the clamps, the friction heat of re-entry had welded them to the Electrode's hull and the great patrol vessel was dragged on to the planet. Space City is waiting for Colonel Zodiac's report before deciding on the next course of action. So far there has been no news from Mellates. It is feared XL5โs radio is out of action (Full report page 16/17)

What an interesting piece of research.
โA new study from the Sheffield Addictions Research Group (SARG) has found that public health policies which reduce spending on harmful products can actually provide a significant boost to UK jobs and the wider economy.โ

Big Oil "purchased solar and EV patents to ensure others couldnโt use them, solicited control of renewable markets and then abandoned them, and funded powerful institutions to promote false solutions, all while using trade groups to downplay the harms of fossil fuels, according to the complaint." ๐

Alcohol marketing restrictions were meant to be in Englandโs 10 Year Health Plan.
Then they disappeared.
Our new report uses FOIs to show how alcohol industry lobbying targeted ministers and pressured government departments to kill the policy.

A lovely tribute from Steve Parker.
When a tree in his yard died, Parker cut slices from the trunk that he then carved like vinyl. The oak records play bird song.

Great paper; similarities w other industries
"..half of research published in top journals has disclosable ties to industry...These trends do not arise from broad scientific engagement with industry, but rather from a select group of scientists who maintain long-lasting relationships with industry"
Ever wonder what proportion of high profile social media research is tied to the tech industry?

2. Abandoning drink-drive law reforms. Labour's plan to reduce the drink-drive limit to 50mg of blood alcohol content risks being a "death knell" for rural pubs, according to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and others. Lowering the limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood risks making a single pint after work legally perilous, cutting off rural pubs that do not have reliable public transport or taxi services. The move would bring England and Wales in line with Scotland, where the limit was reduced to 50mg in 2014 in an attempt to reduce road deaths. However, after an initial fall, road deaths in Scotland have risen in the past four years, and were up 24% in 2024, according to HP Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland. A consultation is now under way, and while all signs point to the Government lowering the limit, resisting the urge to reduce it to as low as Scotland could offer a lifeline to rural pubs.
Wow, The Telegraph and Farage are really coming out to bat for... drink-driving ๐ถ
I'd argue that, if your business model relies on people driving tipsy around country roads... it's not a good model.
