Definitely build your own. I built one of my own, and, being self critical, decided I would go buy one made by a "professional". I never use the one I bought. It flexes in some areas and makes me paranoid that I'm off on my cuts.

I really like my 1,2,3 block for setting up my table saw. Also, a good pair of calipers comes in handy for joinery (or if you turn wood on a lathe). A small, self locking tape measure makes my life a lot simpler as well. I have a measuring tool fetish though, so I may not be the best person to ask 😁
