I usually work a triple shift 7 days a week: parenting & helping my elderly mom/housework/work work and sometimes day labor. it sucks a lot lol! but scribbling these comics on scrap paper saves my life. try it! or make anything. it helps! I hope everyone can find the time to make stuff :)

Eight Popeye-related statues displayed throughout the city of Chester, Illinois, where Thimble Theater/Popeye creator Elzie Segar was born and raised. Statues shown are Popeye, Olive Oyl with Swee'Pea and Eugene the Jeep, Alice the Goon, Poopdeck Pappy, Brutus/Bluto, King Blozo, The Sea Hag and Roughhouse.

TIL: Chester, Illinois has a "Popeye Trail" of 19 statues (28 characters) situated throughout the city in honor of hometown hero Elzie Segar. Beyond the main cast they have Castor/The Whiffle Hen, The Sea Hag/Bernard, Alice the Goon & Child, King Blozo, Toar & more. I have a nerdly urge to visit.

if there's anyone doing more important work as a cartoonist right now, i'd like to see it — and not just because of his subject matter. Ballard's technique, composition, backgrounds, and lettering are confident and idiosyncratic. getting a Walt Kelly vibe from this one. Pogo lived in Florida, too.
