This great thread is about re/introductions, but habitat/species management approaches also applies to the issue that @jmbecologist.bsky.social raises, of populist 'gurus' subverting proper science and evidence in the conservation space. Debates need to be honest with the public and evidence-based π
As someone who had past affiliation with Goldsmith, I very much endorse this message.
The threat posed by Reform now is too great to ignore any boost given to it βwithinβ our sector.
Sitting back and watching is how very dangerous things happen.
π£ Nature targets are not optional β they are the law π
Will this Government be the first ever to break the law by missing legally binding nature targets?
The Office of Environmental Protection warns today that much more action is needed.

The government is considering plans to weaken a law protecting Englandβs national parks, in a move criticised as βoutrageousβ and βdevastatingβ.

Despite #biodiversity and #climate crisises Flemish governement foolishly decides to cut budgets for nature restoration. www.natuurpunt.be/nieuws/vlaan...
Repellent climate denial from the Reform-led Kent Council, who have tabled a motion to βrescind the climate emergencyβ, in a document that is bollocks from start to end.
You canβt rescind atmospheric physics.
But Farage would rescind the Climate Change Act.

Pie chart showing progress of 5.98% against a target of 30%
The UK has a target to protect 30% of land & sea for nature by 2030ποΈ
But progress isnβt adding up - just 6% of land across the UK is protected, with 5 years to goπ₯
New findings are launched as we prepare for #WildSummitUK tomorrow, where nature voices from across the country will push for action π±
One of Scotlandβs last remaining undeveloped dune systems, Coul Links is home to a variety of threatened butterfly and moth species, including the Northern Brown Argus, Portland Moth and the extremely rare Northern Groundling. π¦

More than three years have passed since the UK Government announced that it would ban the sale of peat for gardening, yet official documentation is still to appear and peat extraction continues:
