Illuminating report by @louisebyrnenews.bsky.social on Primetime reporting from MIPIM “real estate” conference in Cannes confirming the total capitulation by this Govt to, and the capture of Irish housing policy by, international capital. Doubling down on failure.

Minister O’Donovan regularly gives impression that he despises soccer.
What happened in Dundalk was a disgrace & the days of pyros at matches must be over.
However O’Donovan seems almost gleeful at administering collective punishment.
Will the same happen after a GAA or rugby melee?

When the CCPC refers to regulatory barriers and the need for more competition and innovation in the taxi sector - what it is really talking about is reducing security and wages for taxi drivers and lifting regulations that provide a measure of safety for customers.

Labour, @forsatradeunion.bsky.social, @fsuireland.bsky.social, @nwc.bsky.social and @onefamilyireland.bsky.social came together today to call for stronger legislation to guarantee a right to remote working, as opposed to a right to request it.

There might be good reasons for Britain to build data centres. Job creation isn’t one of them
Estimate*estimate
Good piece on the generally very ropey “job creation” figures when it comes to data centres.

By the same argument shouldn't cars be painted in high vis so other road users can see them...

Finglas shocked after girl's death in scrambler crash
A girl who died after being struck by a scrambler bike in Finglas yesterday afternoon has been named locally.
This is the nightmare we have all been fearing and waiting for.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of Grace Lynch on their devastating loss.
For years now, almost every meeting with Gardaí involves the lawlessness on our roads with scramblers and scooters

Ireland invited to join Donald Trump’s ‘board of peace’ for Gaza
McEntee says proposal will be given ‘careful consideration’ amid fears of undermining UN authority
The United Nations should be the lead institution to bring peace to Gaza. I have huge concerns in relation to Trump's Board of Peace and Ireland should be extremely wary of involvement.

Cycling to work on Wednesday morn and a van unloading Moby bikes was parked on the cycle path at the Charlemont LUAS stop blocking half of it. Absolute rule onto themselves.
We should be expanding public provision of bike hire not relying on private operators dumping bikes all over the city.

Ireland ‘losing billions of euro in foreign investment’ due to energy grid constraints
Companies choosing to invest elsewhere in Europe because of infrastructure issues here, adviser says
Not clear what investment is being lost but assume its data centres. These bring little economic benefit, put huge strain on the grid now using a 1/4 of generation so driving up electricity prices, and will cost jobs in the long run due to AI. But govt want more?

Lorcan Sirr: Across the EU, housing is more about spreadsheets than homes. That has to change
From Porto to Tallinn, the objective of a middle-class society of homeowners is under severe threat
Excellent piece by Lorcan Sirr in @irishtimes.com about the importance of work underway in the EU on housing - something @aodhanoriordain.bsky.social has championed since he was elected an MEP 18 months ago. Markets have too much power and the State must do more www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...
