AI is of the Internet and thus incorporates the worst of online. Here it is describing my next door neighbor's lovely little cat as a "raccoon." If we can't enjoy our chonky kitties without prejudice what hope is there for humanity?

Graphic with text that says "five things that rabbits are not. 1. Toys 2. Easter decorations 3. βStarter petsβ to teach children responsibility 4. Low maintenance pets 5. Inexpensive pets. Rabbits are a significant commitment! They live 10-12 years and they are delicate animals with highly specific dietary needs. They also require a lot of room to exercise and play. Theyβre prone to many ailments which require expensive specialized vet care." There are photos of three rabbits down the right side of the image.
Easter is coming... ππ
Come, there's a fascinating article about cows in it.
Ahem.
Unless the bots can go something useful, like suggest an English fox population, c.1550, sod off pls π
Also, did the vermin laws apply to Ireland? Yes, I can follow this up, but it's just a lot for what will end up half a sentence.

Some days are just sitting staring thinking about something that's ultimately at best a short paragraph in a book. Today I'm pondering the thousands of fox skins imported from Ireland to England in the 15th and 16th centuries. And just...why?
Surely there were enough foxes in England for fur trim?
Yes! My students collaborated with a local museum last semester with an option being research-based short films to connect with an upcoming exhibit. Every semester I have students make tiktok-style shorts to convey something about their research
Last year I had a student say this when they used AI. I pressed them on who their friend was that they provided them with fake citations and they said they were a more senior history major (caught student was a sophomore).
Some thoughts:
1. The deadline for nominating a person or group for the Nobel Peace Prize is Feb. 1.
2. History professors are qualified nominators.
3. The people of Minnesota have been awe-inspiringly peaceful in the face of state violence.
4. He would be so mad.

My colleagues have legit asked me: how do you collaborate?
And, well, I'm easily bored and I'm bad at a lot of things I want to know more about. So... People?
Hell YES
From a 17th century letter from the Earl of Clarendon during his viceregal tenure in Ireland: "asparagus here [here is Chapelizod] are very good, large and green, but they do not (pardon the expression) make the urine smell at all, of which I would be glad to know the reason."
Today's sh!tposting is brought to you via my entertainment by the 17th century melon raising craze of north Cork.
In other news, I'm reading a lot about rabbits. Usually my research makes me hungry, but now I just want to cuddle my cats instead of working and maybe adopt some guinea pigs.
I've somehow just learned about the tallow trend in influencer-land and hooooo but if I'm not excited already at the prospect of boring the tits off some eejit about the trade history of this animal product like I don't already have spreadsheets made
We've removed the paywall from this guide so everyone can access it. π Stay safe.
Text heading in book reading "safe conduct for Maiot de Vyan, prisoner of John Burton, merchant of Bristol, going overseas to seek money for his ransom"
Wait, wut?
Why yes I want to opt out of my book being used in AI development because "protecting my copyright" and "using AI ethically"? Puh-lease.
Oh but I'll get 20% royalty? 20% of 0 is still 0.
Me on Christmas Eve: omg I just want to be left alone and not have to think about anything but what tv show next
Me on December 29th: oh thank God it's Monday I can go back to making my little spreadsheets about animal trades, I thought the boredom might kill me
It was a Mr Frosty, written off as so many toys were in my family as a "waste of money," but I complained so bitterly every year that I finally got given one in my third year of college.

And nobody asked if they're Super. Guess I'll leave that note in the book so in hopes of a future pun loving nerd.
I love the notes I leave myself in books for future reference. Case in point "Wales has its own furry animals."
Makes total sense to me!
