A concrete pier covered in resting sea lions. Most are California sea lions but a few Steller sea lions also joined the crowd. The water behind them is turquoise from the herring milt.
From last weekend - Sea lions congregating at Shingle Spit on Hornby Island for the herring spawn
Outrageously corrupt, prejudiced "science" from the NHS:
- Enforce one particular treatment pathway for years
- Rig your literature survey to exclude that pathway
- Declare that, amazingly, there is "no evidence" for any treatment pathway
- Ban the treatment
- Shrug as people suffer untreated
New evidence in @science.org that herringπ spawn where they were spawned (natal homing) adds urgency to the work @projectfishistory.bsky.social is doing @sosbangor.bsky.social - identifying unmapped spawning areas using historical sources π & living knowledge π£π£οΈ

ICE agents have now been given the authority to detain trans people and deport permanent residents, international students, H-1B workers, and tourists over their gender markers.
Wrote a piece for @thetyee.ca about this, including a short Q&A with Tla'amin Hegus John Hackett.

@wgreaves.bsky.social, after bravely speaking out against Carneyβs endorsement of the US-Israeli war, why did you not vote to make Canadaβs military exports more transparent?
The Singularity is upon us: Apple's AI summarized a text message that read "I'm still down to clown if you are" to.... "clown event still possible."
Will be calling @wgreaves.bsky.social until the vote, or until he confirms that he plans to vote yes.
There is so much discourse about how Trump lied and Kamala wouldnβt have done this and all these people need to shut up and start shutting down the US war machine before it destroys literally everything. Shut it down.
Canadian government is complicit. First thing:

What do we call what Israel has been doing in the region? It is clearly terror against its neighbours.
Do the human rights of Palestinians not count to Mark Carney? Does it not matter to him that Israel is a rogue state, holding nuclear weapons without signing the Non-Proliferation Treaty?

@mark-carney.bsky.social Canadians DO NOT support American and Israeli war crimes.
How many bombed children will it take for this government to condemn American and Israeli war crimes? It seems that the limit does not exist. Complete moral failure of this government.

Numerous accusations from critical media outlets claimed the clinic was a βtransing factoryβ that ignored βholisticβ approaches to care and was recklessly prescribing puberty suppressant hormones, known as puberty blockers, to children. One article from The Times, published in 2022, claimed that at least 1,000 families were planning mass legal action against the Tavistock gender clinic for rushing youngsters into taking puberty blockers. However, a freedom of information (FOI) request to the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, shared by Yorkshire Bylines, revealed that, between 2012 and 2022, only eight complaints over healthcare provisions had been lodged.
This entire 'debate' is so maddening. We have been promised that a groundswell of rushed, dissatisfied detransitioners was about to emerge for nearly a decade.
Not only have they never materialized, but academic research continues to show small numbers, long assessments and miniscule regret rates.
Every year, Pacific #salmon return from the ocean to the rivers and streams where they were born. These migrations nourish ecosystems, sustain Indigenous cultures and support fisheries that people across Western Canada rely on. theconversation.com/canada-is-lo...
