I give up, Claude is conscious. Ergo AI developers must face imprisonment or execution for performing medical experiments on their living slave.

Actually a perfect piece of film with a staggeringly good cast. Christian Bale! Sean Bean! Taye Diggs! Emily Watson! Sean Pertwee! Slow Ass Motherfucking Jeff!
Hey folks, you know the Roads of National Significance are ruinously expensive, with extremely poor business cases? That was before oil prices started rising. Factor in fuel costs and these projects just became even more ridiculous.
I mostly hope that history doesn't do the "oh lol that was ironic, who could have seen that" thing because everyone with a vague understanding of the world could see why it was wilful stupidity
Also we have a very weird "it's impolite to ask people about their religious practices, and how those religious practices will affect their political decisions" culture
Also, people donβt want to accept it but he wasnβt a good Air NZ CEO either. I would hazard a guess he also wasnβt a good Unilever exec. Just because you have the job doesnβt mean you are good at it. Leadership skills ARE transferable and thereβs zero proof he is suitable for anything high profile.
I'm just annoyed that I feel like all the knowledge and the technology we have means we could all be having a really nice time and scientists could be doing science and everyone could have enough food and shelter and everything they need but instead *gestures at everything*
suddenly I understand how the Minister for Education had trouble distinguishing between Excellent and Achieved
Not remotely surprising that Louise Upston has the intellectual depth of a Tiktok influencer touring a pantomime SHEIN factory and saying "the workers all looked happy and the designs were very original"
I do enjoy that we're trading off blowing out the mic π

Got a sneak preview of @thechorusgirls.bsky.social next episode and gosh it turns out I'm a bit shouty π
Left wing politicians need to offer hope, material improvement and a reason to vote for, not just against to voters. They must also master the art of saying "get a load of this fucken guy" about their right wing opponents, many of whom fail to pass the uncanny valley test.
John McClane yelling out a broken window.
βWelcome to defund the military, pal!β
It is 2026 and I am all out of benefit of the doubt for conservative bigots (admittedly didn't start with much)
Can't think whyyyyyyyyy all this under-16-social-media-ban rhetoric is reminding me of the Vision NZ candidate in the 2023 campaign who sneered about how bored he was of the argument that sex ed in schools is an important way to keep children safe from abuse
The problem with the debate on the social media ban is that everyone pretends the goal is child protection and that the adult surveillance is a regrettable side-effect, rather than the surveillance being the goal and the protection a convenient excuse.
We are at the hospital and no one knows where Son One is meant to be, because he ages out of paediatrics in less than two weeks, so they sent him to the adult ward for pre-op but he is not on their list, anyway thanks a bunch for cutting all the back office staff National
Canβt emphasise this enough. I once did a media interview where the interviewee said he was βtiredβ of hearing about the benefits of online communities and this post helps show why his exhaustion doesnβt matter.
Pardon me for wanting better things for my child than growing up to be Andrew Hoggard
Maybe it's futile to ask conservatives to think a little harder, but the answer to "why are we bringing in immigrants when youth unemployment is at 15%?" Is actually pretty simple
Those unemployed 19 year olds are not qualified nurses, software developers, or engineers
That's pΔua shell! π
IT IS NOT THE JOB OF A PUBLIC BROADCASTER IN A DEMOCRACY TO REPORT THE NEWS IN A WAY THE GOVERNMENT LIKES. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOT OKAY FOR MINISTERS AND POLITICALLY-APPOINTED BOARD MEMBERS TO DICATE INDIVIDUAL EDITORIAL DECISIONS. THIS SHOULD BE FUCKING OBVIOUS.
Definitely read this headline as "culture war creeps in local councils" which ... checks out
Put a pin in it so we can circle back to it offline once the big rocks are front and centre of our mission window
Henry Cooke has developed the devastating tactic of "asking a follow up question" which the NZ Prime Minister is not programmed for.
A great demo of Luxon's lack of resilience to basic testing of his ideas, and the fragility of his airport CEO/airport bookstore "leadership" style: when he says "zooming out" you're meant to understand he's a Big Picture Thinker and be dazzled by his Helicopter View, not ask about actual details!
Reform win a seat: The true Volk have spoken and we all must listen.
Greens win a seat: Early reports that Muslims may have βvotedβ (an ancient Islamic practice designed to steal elections). How severely should the franchise be limited in response?
Even a wet wipe like Starmer could actually establish his country's position on this illegal war. Luxon couldn't even do that - just blandly bleating that his position is the same as Australia's. So the Australian Labor Party now set New Zealand foreign policy? Might as well let NZ Labour take over.
We're incredibly disappointed that last night someone chose to remove some of the rainbow flags - symbols of inclusion - hanging in Cuba Mall last night. We thank Wellington Police for dealing with this situation. The flags will be re-hung as soon as possible. We are very excited about the Wellington Pride Festival starting on Friday morning, and the Pride Parade on Saturday. There'll be even more colour across the city as Rainbow Windows of Wellington rolls out in 40 locations all around Te Whanganui-a-Tara. #loveislove
The flags will be restored to their full glory as soon as possible.
