Earlier I wrote about Oregon’s newest staff additions. This premium Flock Talk looks deeper at what those hires reveal about the mentorship culture Dan Lanning is building in Eugene.

Two quiet hires. One clear philosophy. Oregon adds Rip Rowan and James Brown as Dan Lanning continues building the infrastructure behind the Ducks’ championship pursuit.

For the premium members, I did an even deeper dive into the EDGE position for 2026 PLUS the continued "recruiting the future" for EDGE position:

Crazy day today. Hopefully last month I have to do certain things and free up some time. Write the War Room previewing EDGE position for 2026 today:

Flipping the No. 1 player in his own backyard sounds fun. Reality is harder.
Plus, why AI highlight videos aren’t the recruiting apocalypse some think they are, but could slow things down and test integrity.

Forgot to post my Friday Recruiting Thoughts... here you go:

Consolidation in recruiting coverage isn’t evil, it’s business. But when more voices fall under one banner, narratives tighten & edges smooth. I wrote this morning about why independent coverage still matters - and why Duck Sports Central exists. Join us.

Take Two is back.
Why the Oregon–Oregon State rivalry may not return anytime soon.
Why Will Mencl fits the long-term QB blueprint.
And why consolidation in recruiting media isn’t automatically good for fans.
This one goes a little deeper.

A little more tease from tomorrow's article:
Can one independent site “fight” consolidation? Not in scale. But in spirit? Absolutely. Competition doesn’t have to be massive to matter. It just has to be persistent. It has to care.
Took over DSA with urgency. Went independent to stay in the arena. Honolulu reminded me why this matters.
Tomorrow: Take Two Tuesday is back.
Lost rivalries. Will Mencl. And the myth that consolidation makes things better.
Clarity. Urgency. Honest conversation.
Following the free look at the weekend, I dug into some deeper recruiting nuggets. At least one visitor for June no one else has reported.

It would be so much fun if this football and sports writing were my full time gig. Would have to pay a LOT more than it does, but what a joy if all of my time could be spent doing this.
That would take like 1500 paid subscriptions, though, so it will have to stay part time!

In the bleak midwinter, football strips itself bare.
No noise. No guarantees. Just the work — lonely, repetitive, and unseen — where seasons are actually built.

Here is our quick Commit Impact Story as well:

Scouting Report: Oregon's newest commit Anthony Jones. Premium film review tomorrow morning.
Once a long, power-based edge defender, Jones transformed to a 6-5, 285-pound interior disruptor whose traits didn’t disappear when he moved inside — they scaled.

Oregon’s signing day may be quieter than December, but there’s still important movement worth tracking — and it’s already shaping how the Ducks approach spring and 2027. 🦆👇

Quiet leverage beats loud momentum.
Oregon isn’t chasing February headlines. It’s recalibrating the board, managing timing, & stacking foundation pieces while higher-profile targets breathe. Portal reality. OL patience. DL reassessments. Clarity.

Today from the Sunday Morning Sidewalk it's not about stars or rankings.
It’s about the quiet work. The walks. The weather. The January weekends that shape recruiting long before Saturdays do.
Sometimes the margins matter most.

The CFP expansion stalemate isn’t about logistics. It’s about power.
Expansion isn’t the problem, expansion without rethinking the postseason is.
16 teams. On-campus games. Conference titles that still matter.

Today in Flock Talk, CFP power plays, Oregon roster calculus, and recruiting reality — all in one place.

Today in the War Room why Oregon isn’t “all-in” just because it won’t write a blank check — and why that says more about Dan Lanning’s plan than any flashy portal haul. 🦆💪 #GoDucks @Oregon Football
