Absolutely, it sucks to have to hear that, esp from someone you look up to. It just leaves you in the dark as to what exactly is "wrong" with your art with no real way to "fix" that. There's nothing besides uncertainty though. Why listen to something like that then?
Like others have said it's not productive and just asshole behavior from such an individual.
It still hurts, but if you don't get constructive criticism on what to improve on to meet this "professional standard" then that might've been the goal more so than anything else.
