I ran across a lawsuit like that last month. A guy put his folks on wjbd and solar and the city tried to sue them over an ordinance stating that a home must be connected to the local power grid. Judge threw it out as overreach.

He put the wires on a plug and screwed this into the socket.

Years ago my mom bought sconces to go outside our garage door. And my dad wired them into one of the 2 bulb sockets on the opener so that when the button is pushed at night on the way in, the outside sconces turn on, and turn off when the door opener timer turns them off.
