Isn't that the point of war though? Redistribute the wealth? If no money or power were involved, there would be no war. Politicians sons never go to war, they cash in on it.

Iβm just a geriatrician, wondering how its possible that my older migrants professorships in the ancient form of their own languages from their countries werent recognised on arrival to Australia. Forced to work in factories for a βbetter lifeβ. What a grotesque loss of knowledge for this country π©π
The EPA's tailpipe emissions standard is one of the most successful regulatory programs in US history.
Tailpipe emissions cause asthma and cancer, especially in kids.
This is the NYC skyline in 1973.
You can't... repeal... a scientific finding. At that point it's just called lying about it.
I'm not an expert in any of this, but I think it's pretty likely that a whole bunch of nasty diseases are precipitated by viruses that we currently dismiss as merely acute and relatively minor, and that ridding ourselves of those viruses could avoid a lot of suffering
Infection with Epstein-Barr virus is very strongly associated with Multiple Sclerosis, so much so that it's probably causative.

Halting development of an EBV vaccine will help bring this awful disease into the lives of millions more people.

These people control the media - if you're seeing this, it is by design. They want to get people talking about his hand because this would be very easy to hide. Softening up the shock of a transition of power perhaps...
Some doomscrolling to encourage as many people as I can to get rainwater/grey water tanks if you have the means. #ecosky #greensky #globalwarming

I'm old enough to remember when Nixon tried to impose his will on unarmed citizens at Kent State University in Ohio in 1970, I never thought this could happen again.
Relevant to the end of all empires βThe old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.β Antonio Gramsci
2026. Where dropping bombs on, and murdering people because your problem solving, intelligence, and negotiation skills are so bad that your only perceived option is violently ending lives - and it's these lack of skills that gets you promoted to run the world. Puts failing upward on a new level.
They're in debt beyond their eyeballs. This will stave it off for a bit I imagine.
Venezuela is an important oil producer (~top15 in global ranking), with some of the world's largest proven oil reserves. Supply chocked last year but export to π¨π³ was picking up.
The current uncertainty will be profitable to other fossil giants (π·πΊ)
Unless, just an idea: we take renewables seriously
When you see military helicopters itβs worth considering they donβt fly over uncleared terrain. Someone is making it safe for them.
Instead of banning words and protests I vote we ban the comments section on all news websites.
Recession or oil cartel incoming...
Speechless.
Okay that's enough Internet for today!
This appeared in an Australian subreddit - US friends, is this real? Tell me it can't be real.
I'm so curious to know the justification for this. What is the goal? 'Save money?' Because the resulting homelessness and health outcomes will be far more expensive to the taxpayer.
Hundreds of years of the judiciary and police and the decisions are always the same.
My 7 year old just asked for black doc martens so she 'can be cool' and my 11 year old just asked for a pair of chucks, and yeah it's 2025 alright.

Studies increasingly find links between higher concentrations of certain pollutants in the air and the prevalence of dementia. Yet such findings are emerging when the U.S. government is dismantling efforts to continue reducing air pollution by shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources.
A picture of Robert Redford from the movie Sneakers.
Vale Robert Redford. I had no idea you were 89 and that Sneakers, my favourite movie of yours, was from 1992...
I think Biovea is still selling...for now. Everyone I know has rushed there to stock up.

I'm so lucky to work at a hospital that has a music therapy (MT) department. The patients are even luckier. The other day my unwell patient was agitated and delirious - security were readied to sedate them. In walks the MT and a guitar. 70s acoustic rock ensued.
No sedation required.

Gosh how to answer that in a skeet! I think AI ethics are only ever going to be as good as the humans who write them. I hope they involve people with expertise *and* lived experience in that.
Asimov's R. Giskard Reventlov, who saves mankind from itself
This list made me laugh/cry so hard.
