The upheaval in the BC Conservative Caucus, probably can’t be repaired.Whether Rustad hangs on or goes, don’t see them reconciling. More likely is a Party split and two caucuses one led by Rustad and one by Halford. Or he goes and we see one nasty and divisive leadership race. Chaos on the Right.
The PM’s days appear numbered. He can resign or be defeated in the Spring & crushed in an election. Trudeau is thinking about his legacy. A thoughtful, controlled resignation is preferable to a steamroller election defeat for that legacy thing.
It’s hard to fathom how Trudeau hangs on. This death watch will continue to grow and be the single focus of the media. Can’t imagine any potential candidate who wants to win, being interested in the job before the 2028 election.
BC politics are intriguing. Rumours are already rampant that a movement is afoot to do to John Rustad what happened to Gordon Wilson. Now that he has established the party, replace him. If that is the agenda, building an effective opposition will be tough. The next 6 months will be telling.
