2/2 How Michelangelo's Pieta looked from above while he was sculpting it. Nobody else saw this and itโs still amazing.

โIt is a miracle that a formless block of stone could have been reduced to a perfection that nature is scarcely able to create in the flesh.โ Vasari on the 1498 Pieta of Michelangelo, born OTD 1475.
2/2 Pro tip: when you visit the Sistine Chapel, bring along small binoculars to really see Michelangeloโs ceiling. Best advice you will ever get on Bluesky.
Michelangelo's study for the Libyan Sibyl, and finished figure on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Love how much attention he devoted to her toes! Today is his day.
The Doni Tondo, 1504. Masterpiece. Thereโs no other word for it. Wins all the contests between renaissance geniuses. By Michelangelo, born on this day in 1475.
Many of you know that I use Permanent for my church archive project. If you're interested in exploring Permanent as an archive option for your #genealogy or other projects, check out their #RootsTech video: www.familysearch.org/rootstech/se...
This includes evaluations of a source as original & derivative, and if derivative, how to drill down closer to the original. #RootsTech
THROWBACK THURSDAY!
Did you know that DNA inheritance patterns vary slightly depending on whether the ancestor was male or female? You're more likely to find outliers on your dad's side than your mom's. This post explains why.

10 million records a day. Wowsers.
I love everything about this! The conviction that a major figure was not struck by a bolt of lightning but worked to understand the system he would ultimately critique and help dismantle. The scholarly sleuthing rare books โ all of it. ๐๐ค

Aeolus releasing the winds. Circa 1600, painting on alabaster. Rock becomes wind and cloud and water in fabulous move by Hans von Aachen, whose day is today.
As a writer, one of the most useful books I own is Nรถfn รslendinga (The Names of Icelanders). It lists, in alphabetical order, all the names that Icelanders have ever born*. It's so useful when naming characters and it's now online!
*A precedent does not mean that the name would be allowed now.
Countdown to RootsTech 2026. The hybrid family history conference starts this coming week. I have a pre-recorded presentation called โUnlocking the Archives: Researching the British West Indiesโwhich will be available once you sign up for free at familysearch.org
2/2 War. It's bad. Another little allegory to send to your friends who think war wIโll be worth it, from Antoine Caron of Paris.

Itโs rare to see historic images of people of colour in art. Great to see this supported by @artfund.bsky.social #NationalArmyMuseum

1 Mar 2026 Trick for finding where your ancestors lived #genealogy
The mishigas is over, Blogger put the page back up. Score one for #genealogy....
Oh AI also suggested that maybe my blog was flagged because I accurately called St. Louis IX an anti-Semite, which if THAT's true?!?!?.................
In any case, I reposted a version of it: ruedafingerhut.blogspot.com/2009/07/rued...
Minor concern given the state of the world right now, but I'm annoyed that Blogger took down my Rueda family history page, which had over 28,000 views over 16 years.
Perhaps it was too long? It better not have been over descriptions of what conquistadors actually did...
Petronella Boogaart has been reading a VERY good book and wants to immortalize its pleasure in her portrait. What a wonderful idea! And Jan Verkolje obliges, in 1679.

AHOY-HOY!!!
Thrilled (and quite smug) to say BBC Youโre Dead To Me has reached 150 episodes! Even better โ we managed to time our anniversary to land within a week of the 150th anniversary of the telephone being patented. So, guess what we did for this weekโs episodeโฆ โ๏ธ
Remember the TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME
This looks like the Euphoria high school version of Rembrandt ๐
