Danielle Smith and the UCP are squandering our resources on their separatist agenda rather than focusing on what matters to Albertans.

We NEED a better government.
We deserve better government.

Alberta's New Democrats are ready.

The political effects of X’s feed algorithm - Nature Among users initially on a chronological feed, 7 weeks of exposure to X’s algorithmic feed in 2023 shifted political attitudes and account-following behaviour in a more conservative direction compared...

A study was recently published in Nature on how the X/Twitter algorithm promotes right-wing content and adjusts people’s political attitudes in the USA.
This is interesting to read if anyone is interested in how algorithms promote political polarization.

This is an image containing text that is on a red background with clouds and stars. This is the first image out of two.
The text has the title “What is a demagogue?”.
The text body says “A demagogue (/ˈdɛməˌɡɒɡ/; from Ancient Greek δημαγωγός (dēmagōgós) 'popular leader, mob leader'; from Ancient Greek δῆμος (dêmos) 'people, populace' and ἀγωγός (agōgós) 'leading, guiding'), or rabble-rouser, is a political leader in a democracy who gains popularity by arousing the common people against elites, especially through oratory that whips up the passions of crowds, appealing to emotion by scapegoating out-groups, exaggerating dangers to stoke fears, lying for emotional effect, or other rhetoric that tends to drown out reasoned deliberation and encourage fanatical popularity. Demagogues overturn established norms of political conduct, or promise or threaten to do so.”

The text has the title “What is a demagogue?”.
The text body says “Historian Reinhard Luthin defined demagogue as "a politician skilled in oratory, flattery and invective; evasive in discussing vital issues; promising everything to everybody; appealing to the passions rather than the reason of the public; and arousing racial, religious, and class prejudices—a man whose lust for power without recourse to principle leads him to seek to become a master of the masses. He has for centuries practiced his profession of 'man of the people'. He is a product of a political tradition nearly as old as western civilization itself.
Demagogues have appeared in democracies since ancient Athens. Demagogues exploit a fundamental weakness in democracy: Because ultimate power is held by the people, it is possible for them to give it to someone who appeals to the lowest common denominator of a large segment of the population. Demagogues have usually advocated immediate, forceful action to address a crisis while accusing moderate and thoughtful opponents of weakness or disloyalty. Many demagogues elected to high executive office have unraveled constitutional limits on executive power and tried to convert their democracy into a dictatorship, sometimes successfully.”

Here is some text going over what a demagogue is. This sounds familiar to me.

The text has the title “Aristotle on Demagogues (from “Politics”).
The text body says “…A fifth form of democracy, in other respects the same, is that in which, not the law, but the multitude, have the same supreme power, and superseded the law by their decrees. This is a state of affairs brought about by the demagogues. For in democracies which are subject to the law the best citizens hold the first place, and there are no demagogues; but where the laws are not supreme, there demagogues spring up. For the people becomes a monarch, and is many in one; and the many have the power in their hand, not as individuals, but collectively.”

The spirit of both is the same, and they alike exercise a despotic rule over the better citizens. The decrees of the demos correspond to the edicts of the tyrant; and the demagogue is to the one what the flatterer is to the other. Both have great power; the flatterer with the tyrant, the demagogue with democracies of the kind which we are describing.”

I remember reading Aristotle warning of demagogues. I went and took this section from Politics and put them into these images, because I think it is good to reflect on.
Demagogues are getting into power around the globe, but I would argue that we have them running the government in Alberta right now

None of us real Albertans asked for any of these referendum questions.

Man the UCP are a bunch of losers that don’t have any friends, do they? You’d have to live in far-right online spaces filled with bots 24/7 to think those are a good idea.

I think someone needs to campaign and offer a positive change for Alberta in Canada. That’s what is missing. Getting those “lean” voters is really important. I think it’s a mistake to offer “status quo” against a “change” option.

Stephen Harper says the US is a "hostile" regime and Canada must urgently reduce its economic ties and hit back with counter tariffs.
He says business leaders are fooling themselves if they think things will go back to normal.
When I find myself in the same trench as Stephen Harper it's serious.

First, the UCP said there was an “election integrity crisis," which led to a voter ID law.

Then a “national unity crisis” → a sovereignty referendum.

Now a “crisis of confidence” in the courts → defunding judges.

There is no evidence of these crises.

The UCP is trying to manufacture them.

Not to mention that she was the one that started threatening a “national unity crisis” right after Trump started to threaten to annex Canada and Carney started to pull ahead in the polls.
