Datastar: support@starfederation.dev @data-star.dev
@drbragg.dev just listened to episode 62. Why hasn’t the rails community embraced HTMX or datastar like the go and python communities have? Invite those project leaders to the podcast please.
In Perl any time you use an operator on a tainted string the result is a tainted string.
In TS it could just be a type and input from io could return a tainted string. You would need a function or an operator to untaint a string.
It’s not illegal to blow bubba
Have you guys ever used Perl? In Perl there is a thing called "taint" where any string coming from the outside is marked as tainted and you need special handling to deal with it. It would be handy in TS too
It's impossible to remove DHH from the rails and ruby community. It's difficult to help Ruby Central who is being controlled by Tobi who is also similarly bigoted.
The easiest thing to do is to move on. Use a different language, a different framework, a different community who is not hostile to you
Oh I didn't realize you were one of those people.
I don’t get it. What are you trying to say?
The whole community is tap dancing around the elephant in the room.
I predict this is going to have a long term negative impact on rails and ruby in the future
That’s a weird take. His statement says he didn’t want to be associated with white supremacists so he stopped donating.
Can’t blame him really. I wouldn’t want my company to be tarred with that brush either.
The fact is that Shopify is the only significant source of income for RC right now and also hires a bulk of ruby core developers. This means they de-facto control ruby much like Google de-facto controls Go and Microsoft de-facto controls .NET despite those projects being open source in name.
Nevertheless it has caused a rift in the community which isn't good for ruby or rails.
Mike Pulled funding because he didn't want himself or his company to be associated with the messaging DHH was pushing on political, race and gender topics.
The point is that once they lost sidekick funding they had to rely on shopify who then took control
The whole incident got started when sidekick pulled funding from RC because they platformed DHH
BTW. Rails is being controlled by one corporation and now Ruby is being controlled by one corporation and DHH is involved with both of them.
Not a great outcome for open source
Unfortunately I don’t believe in a soul.
In my world view you get what you get in this world or you don’t get it at all.
They will gladly trade moral authority for land.
Ah, well I was on the June 10 "listening session" call where various folks were presenting concerns about DHH's appearance, and in that meeting during talk of CoC hypotheticals I shared a link DHH attacking people on Reddit who had been critical of his appearance.

It's crazy how quickly Trump gained control over the media.
People more eloquent and influential than me have written about it. If you don’t want to cover it ok I guess
The chain of events started when Mike pulled his 250,000 support of Ruby central because the platformed DHH. You mentioned this without naming Mike or sidekick
You should do an episode on DHH and whether it’s a problem for the rails community to keep him the face of the framework.
Numerous people have written about him lately
You made me log into xitter but Here is one tobi reposted

You can look at their xitter posts to see their abuse of various members of the Ruby community. Mike Perham was very public about why he ended his contributions to Ruby central. It was because of DHH
Honestly this whole thing at its core is about DHH
I don’t know why you refused to talk about DHH. He was the reason sidekick pulled their sponsorship.
DHH and Tobi have been acting atrociously since the debacle insulting and berating valuable members of the community. If you are brave address this in a podcast

He is running a flawless campaign so far.
Was Merb a fork? I recall it being a competing framework
