In the second panel the tanuki looks towards the viewer, slamming his hands on the table and with his tail and ears held high. Seemingly, the yell caught his attention, and in search of affirmation that balls truly exist he says, "Huh?"

Tanukis have balls? Some of them do, and often big ones. Strange creatures...
