power for people
Power for People is coordinating a national campaign for Government legislation to support community energy projects to sell energy directly to local homes and businesses.
This would make many more projects possible and create the opportunity for local people to buy affordable clean energy generated in their community.
In recent months, welcome words from Ministers in Parliament together with the release of the Local Power Plan, show encouraging signs of the Governmentβs intention to make this reform. However, there has been no detail or timeline outlining when the Government will turn that intent into a reality. Thatβs why Power for People is building support from MPs with Early Day Motion (EDM) 2151 βBuying Community Energy Locallyβ. This is a Parliamentary motion which allows MPs to publicly record their support for the reform. EDM 2151 has now been signed by over 100 MPs. As more MPs come on board, the more effective it will be in persuading the Government to legislate for this change they keep saying they want to make.

βThe whole process starts with schools or other community organisations getting in touch with us to say they would like help... We do feasibility studies and technical surveys, looking at the business case, and once we know it is feasible we raise community shares. βFor LEDs there is a similar business model. We retrofit the lighting to access lower energy costs and charge an annual fee less than half of the cost of incandescent lighting.β - Selce CEO & Founder Giovanna Speciale
