And instead of generic "Mexican embroidery" pinterest boards, I can find a whole study done with a community to record and digitize traditional motifs because they're as much a stitched language as an art and I can both use this to deepen my connection with my culture AND learn cool things

I've been deep diving into Mexican embroidery, and aside from my small but growing library of books, I've been relying heavily on and loving the existence of the digital Commons network because I can be like
"What are motifs that set mazahua embroidery apart?"

Imagine asking predictive text to think for you when instead you could discover the beautiful world of people thinking very hard and methodically about interesting things in the hopes you become interested too

If you'd gone back to the 90s when my brother and I were watching Daytona with my dad and told us that my brother would be doing media in the pitt for the driver of 43 and we'd get a little wave on the HBO app from him I would have said what's an app and WHAT THAT'S SO COOL

I also love the contrast of Kendrick’s performance and Benito’s. Such perfect book ends.

Two men dancing inside the open door of a truck

Omg this is so good I missed this! VERY intentional shot lingering on two men grinding on each other

Throughout his career Benito has been an ally to the LGBTQ community and has tried to push back against the machismo prevalent in Latin music

Ricky martin's sitting on a white plastic chair in front of some bananas

We ALL know that's Ricky Martin singing in front of the bananas

He's singing "Lo Que Le PasΓ³ a Hawaii," an anti-statehood song that holds up Hawaii as a cautionary tale (as already established, Benito is pro independence)

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them

That was very much not Liam Ramos in Bad Bunny’s performance - his image has been plastered all over this site for weeks. Very strange thing to imagine.

I know Ricky Martin was there because he's a Puerto Rican icon, but I really appreciated that Bad Bunny made a pointed choice to give a gay man a moment in the spotlight in his vision of America
