We like that - in spite of the slightly irritating counter on the lc a. I’m itching to tweak it. Makes the bowl, where it meets the stem, too cumbersome compared to the rest. That aside, overall, it is pretty lovely.
Part of an exhibition panel using some of the phrases I devised in a covid-era social distancing project. Asked to design something to help keep people 2m apart when queuing at shops, I thought about it, knowing I didn't want to use vinyl stickers, initially, I devised some ink-on-paper lettering, which I then painted directly onto the street exactly 2m intervals outside shops to help keep people socially distanced. I decided, this was a great opportunity to get people talking and spark conversation in a time of social isolation. I did this by creating phrases that were ambiguous enough that people would question what they are. They were all parts or multiples of things that measured exactly 2m. Some related to the shops they were outside of some not. I have now made this into a typeface which will feature in a Literary Festival art exhibition.

Well, I finally did it. I am formalising what I have been doing for years. I’ve been ditching clients in order to spend most of my time designing fonts. I started by forcing my own hand and exhibiting a new face based on lettering I created in Covid for social distancing. Details in photo alt text.
Thank you. A perfectly timed touchstone for me. In the last few years I’ve been drawn back to what my early education taught me. I am in the process of dropping corporate work to concentrate solely on book- and type design. I’ve even done some sign-writing lately to get back to being more hands-on.
