Hannan again demonstrating the broader point that the UK right has completely lost touch with where the bulk of opinion in the UK lies on the Middle East - both with this and Israel/Gaza.

Do they think people have literally no memory of past events at all?

What a thin skinned tiny little baby and an absolutely unqualified disgraceful ass canoe.

Trump will be forever seen as a low point for America

Who actually were the Hero Voters? Labour won in 2024 because of economically insecure voters, not social conservatism.

Have been a bit frustrated by some of the conversation about Labour's voter coalition.

I've written about who the "Hero Voters" actually were, how we won them, and what we need to do to earn their support next time.

So it's his legacy?
I don't think he's really interested in legacy. He wants the accolades in real time because he won't be around to enjoy them when he is dead. Putin and Xi are somewhat different because they see themselves as the inheritors of great history - millennia-long [history] in the case of China. For Trump, it is just Trump. He completely trashes every other American leader - he doesn't have a good word for any of them.

This interview of Fiona Hill by @meganjgibson.bsky.social is excellent and full of insight and zingers such as this on whether Trump is driven by his legacy

"As the UK Government talks a big game of being ready to join the US and Israel in war" FFS. Starmer has been abundantly clear that's not happening. This story is based on Lammy confirming the existing position that the UK will engage in defence of its assets. Such dishonesty from The National.

Not many records left in football but winning the Champions League and getting relegated in the same season is still there for the taking.

There is no way this is happening, nor should it. This is so ridiculous.

I’m pretty astonished Badenoch and Farage both decided to get lockstep behind Trump as he walks off a cliff.

Time for a Friday thread:

Some of you may recall that a couple of years ago our good mates and local heroes Double-Barrelled helped us with extra capacity whilst we completed some upgrades at Elusive HQ.

Well, these absolute legends are helping us out again ↓

Blocked it. Engagement farming accounts really annoy me especially when there appears to be zero due diligence either from the account or people sharing it.

What I will never understand is....Twitter was *never* a good gauge of public opinion! I genuinely cannot understand the people who have clearly been using it as a measure of something other than 'internal leadership contests' (where it was genuinely useful' or 'ways to discover cool links'.

Incredibly telling Kemi Badenoch interview on Today:
- can’t say what she’d actually want UK forces to do
- no idea what objective her proposed military action is to achieve
- hides from reality that single biggest constraint on British military = her govt’s defence cuts

Yes and people generally just love Strictly. I was cynical about it about 20 years ago but my wife and I still watch it and swap stories with the family. Its basically like Eastenders, the football or Traitors or something

Yeah more of this if people are up for it! And besides if we were actually at war, you'd need even more of this to keep up morale but we are not at war so the accusation is nonsense.

Daily Mail story attacking an event promoting community dancing as a health supporting activity that can help individuals and the NHS combat a huge range of physical and mental health problems. Plus the Daily Mail displaying its anti-British credentials by attacking our national propensity to have fun in the face of adversity πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Daily Mail 🀝 Zarah Sultana 🀝 30p Lee,
a mash-up we should have all expected

It was promoting the health benefits of collective dancing, an clear, absolute good.

Zarah Sultana MP Facebook post that says:

The optics of MPs doing Strictly Come Dancing in Parliament while the world teeters on the brink of World War Three is completely inappropriate.

It says all you need to know about Westminster.

What absolute nonsense. A fun event using the power of celebrity to promote physical activity is somehow bad? I now have three brilliant professional contacts to bring back to my constituency and a way to inspire people to improve their physical and mental health.

He's literally refused to allow the UK to be dragged into the war. Hence Trump is massively annoyed with him. Yet still the "Mmm, war is bad, m'kay?" crowd witter on as if entirely disconnected from reality.

Am sticking with my bet that the right is reading this wrong and that the majority of voters are not at all unhappy Starmer has upset Trump by holding back from a war whose purpose and end game no-one seems able to define.

Any centre left governing coalition is now:
- Young people, especially graduates
- Urban progressives
- Minority groups
- Working age people with low incomes
- Educated Professionals

If both your political and economic strategy is not geared towards these groups, they will find a party that is.

Starmer not prepared to join a war β€˜without lawful basis and viable plan’, he tells PMQs – UK politics live PM says country must act β€˜with clarity, with purpose and with a cool head’ amid Middle East crisis and Trump criticism

"The sprint to clean energy is the only way to get off the volatile international fossil fuels markets, cut bills & deliver energy security"

Fair play to Starmer - this is exactly right. Meanwhile, Badenoch & Farage would have us hooked on more fossil fuels

Something, you know, the Greens keep opposing.

Excellent article on what at core seems to be a classic school kid fad-panic, dialled up to 11 by social media

As it points out, there are risks that it could lead to nasty incidents out of fear

But the key problem, yet again, is the social media firms who recklessly monetise harmful behaviours

"School wars": Moral panic or self-fulfilling prophecy? The Metropolitan Police say they still haven't encountered a single incident relating to the viral red vs blue school wars trend. So is the threat real? And are parents unduly worried?

I’ve been obsessed with the β€œschool wars” meme, what it says about London, the very real fears of parents, algorithmic school rumours… and why almost no other news outlets have just sent people to stand and see what happened. Here’s where we’ve ended up. www.londoncentric.media/p/school-war...
