Berube was supposed to be the hard-ass, accountability-first coach and that failed spectacularly. Took them just one season to start tuning him out.

DeBoerβs a total POS, though. What he did to Lehner was unconscionable, and throwing Oettinger under the bus after last yearβs playoffs had all the Stars players saying βget this guy the fuck outta here.β Short shelf-life for him, unless heβs changed.
Brad Treliving is a coward and a bitch.
Edmonton paid a first round pick for a mediocre C and to rid themselves of Mangiapaneβs contract (a good olβ Ontario boy!)
We couldnβt have taken them up on that? Would that not have been a better return for Laughton? Surely they would have preferred Laughts to Dickinson.
For the first time in forever, the Leafs had cap space to weaponize to take undesirable contracts off the hands of contenders in exchange for assets and they did absolutely fuck-all with it. The fucking negligence.
Not a single close-to-ready prospect β in fact, no prospects at all β came back to the Leafs in the Roy/McMann/Laughton deals.
Treliving chose mystery boxes over players who could realistically contribute in the near term.
So disgusted with this organization.
2026 picks are more valuable in potential trades at the draft than 2027 picks. I'm not concerned about the next window.
A third for Scott Laughton?! The Kings have THREE second round picks this year!
Are we seriously, in a retool, not going to get any 2026 picks?
Is the plan to waste our second-last year with Matthews?
Fuck!
"This is three coaches for Auston Matthews. He's the problem."
Coaches through first ten seasons for active stars who didn't change teams:
Connor McDavid / Leon Draisaitl 5
Alex Ovechkin 5
Sidney Crosby / Evgeni Malkin 4
Auston Matthews 3
Answered this in the post you replied to.
Do we have clarity on whether the first round conditions from the Carlo trade kick in before or after the lottery? If the Leafs finish seventh but the lottery balls go their way and they jump up into the top five, do they keep the puck? Or do they have to end the regular season in the bottom-five?
Willy, too. Get that groin looked at.
Matthews never looked this bad under Babcock or Keefe. And McDavid has had, like, five coaches?
Maccelli with a couple βget me outta hereβ goals these last two games.
Leafs are sitting two top-nine forwards and Nick Robertson is still on the fourth line.
Hunter only coached WSH for 60 games in 2011-12. OV's downturn began in 2010-11
10-11 (Boudreau): 32G in 79GP (33-goal pace)
11-12 (Boudreau/Hunter): 38G in 78GP (39)
12-13 (Oates): 32G in 48GP (54)
101 games under Bruce between 2010-12: 32-goal pace
56 games under Hunter in 2011-12: 43-goal pace
Dubas is totally poaching Pridham this summer.
He was mediocre in Calgary. Made the playoffs just four times in nine years, made the second round once, lost Gaudreau for nothing, bridged Tkachuk which gave up a lot of control, etc...
I get that he's well-liked but he's never built or maintained a contender.
I donβt think this gets it done for Thomas considering what other teams have to offer, and itβs a big no from me on Knies + 1st for Fox. Knies is an absolute unicorn as a young powerforward: heβs the type of guy you hold onto for dear life, IMO.
Boldly stupid
Not being snide, but how exactly would we make this happen?
When's the last time Brad Treliving did something bold?
In his Leafs tenure, I can't think of a thing.
The Tkachuk trade, he was forced into.
It astounds me how he got the Leafs job.
He hired Berube, a coach who was so obviously a bad stylistic match.
Last deadline was a disaster.
All of his swings this summer to replace Marner in the aggregate were whiffs.
He has been paralyzed by indecision all season.
#ThanksMamdani
Maybe the Leafs could pull the ol' Keith Tkachuk move with Scott Laughton: trade him to a playoff team, then re-sign him in the summer.
Hopefully next week weβll see Cowan, Haymes, Quillan all playing 17+ minutes.
Jim Hiller should have been fired after the Round 1 challenge debacle against Edmonton last year.
1G-8A*
Matthews has a 6-game point streak (0G-6A) & 9 points in his last 8 GP (1G-7A), so heβs still producing.
But no goals in 7 games? Baffling how his goal scoring has dried up. The season is lost: shut him down.
Shut Willy down while weβre at it. Heβs clearly not 100%.
