I had to look up the origins: National Shower With a Friend Day is a 2015 marketing campaign created by Colorado-based New Wave Enviro to promote the use of shower filters (friend) that remove chlorine. - Disappointing that it's a marketing day. I didn't even know shower filters were a thing.
I don't have a lot of friends, but I have showered with most of them. With a large enough shower, it's perfectly benign; in a smaller shower, it can get a little more personal than everyone is comfortable with.
