Our hyper-individualized society shames us for having emotional reactions and support needs at all. It normally frames reaction as mental illness. Meanwhile so many of us are lonely, disassociated, and/or stunted. We donβt want to face any of that because of the immense pain.
No one really asks me how I am and I donβt know if thatβs because they think Iβm fine because Iβm really strong because they know Iβll tell them truths they arenβt emotionally prepared to hear, or because they donβt care.
