I think we can all agree we want our healthcare sectors to be slow and careful with AI implementation. Especially with diagnoses, care plans, drug development.

AI Action Plan "critical sectors, such as healthcare, are especially slow to adopt due to a variety of factors, including distrust or lack of understanding of the technology, a complex regulatory landscape, and a lack of clear governance and risk mitigation standards."

This is a feature not a bug

From the 2025 AI Action Plan "Create a talent-exchange program designed to allow rapid details of Federal staff to other agencies in need of specialized AI talent"

Easy. Reinstate the Pres Mgmt Fellowship and fund more tech fellowships.

UAB has 26,000 employees, 3,000 of which are faculty. We are the largest public employer in Alabama, and 2nd overall after Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. We are the main healthcare provider in the state. UAB has WORLD CLASS cancer, pediatric, geriatric, stroke, heart+ all other care facilities

Letter from Huntsville Utilities

Letter from Huntsville Utilities

2. The surcharge occurred because one of Trump's executive orders froze a grant that assists low-income residents with their energy bills.

In an email, an Alabama official confirmed that the letter from Huntsville Utilities was genuine and the $100 increase was the direct result of Trump's EO.

1. Donald Trump promised that, as president, he would drastically lower Americans' energy bills.

But hundreds of Alabama residents are receiving a $100 surcharge on their energy bills as a direct result of Trump's actions in the White House.

Yeah so the Constitution isn’t really in effect right now

BREAKING: The White House rescinded President Trump's order to freeze all federal funding, including grants for public health, education, and safety.

This cruel order would have devastated communities across the country.

Finally, the fearful part will be an attempt to re-establish the largely ineffective 2018 China Initiative. The most recent effort made it to the 2024 senate. So likely to see another wave of harm from racial profiling of Chinese students and professors rooted in protecting research security.

Want a High-Paying ‘Blue-Collar AI’ Job? Check Out Your Community College | Center for Security and Emerging Technology In an article published by The Messenger, Luke Koslosky provided his expert insights in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence (AI) education and job opportunities.

“Community colleges have largely untapped potential for expanding the AI workforce because of their large student bodies, but they are sorely underestimated by employers and policymakers alike.” -Luke said this in cset.georgetown.edu/article/want...

Another super untapped way to bolster US AI talent: community college degrees, these are non-advanced degrees that could produce talent for over 800K (data from 2022) non-technical AI jobs. Work from the superb @lukekoslosky.bsky.social

What Is the H-1B Visa Program and Why Are Trump Backers Feuding Over It? A debate over the program for skilled foreign workers has pitted immigration hard-liners against some of President Trump’s most influential supporters in the tech industry.

Our content manger told me this is too dense...oops. So thread 1/?
The hopeful part: Increase in visas for highly skilled STEM talent. H1B visas are valid for at least 3 years & have careful restrictions “to fill openings for which American workers with similar abilities cannot be found.”

Changes from ds and Qwen 2.5-Max. Fearfully - NatSec rhetoric to CCP-fear–monger US-China relations resulting in real harm to individuals. As I’ve said ds was not that surprising. Hopefully - a push from USG to see US AI talent as worthy of investment (eg. foreign-born folks, education, alt paths)

Office hot take on deepseek, very talented team using lots of methods to optimize their algorithm (as opposed to dumping tons of compute and data into it). Not surprising since US export controls intended to slow their compute access. Kind of unverifiable to know how much development compute cost.
