I think we can all agree we want our healthcare sectors to be slow and careful with AI implementation. Especially with diagnoses, care plans, drug development.

AI Action Plan "critical sectors, such as healthcare, are especially slow to adopt due to a variety of factors, including distrust or lack of understanding of the technology, a complex regulatory landscape, and a lack of clear governance and risk mitigation standards."

Letter from Huntsville Utilities
2. The surcharge occurred because one of Trump's executive orders froze a grant that assists low-income residents with their energy bills.
In an email, an Alabama official confirmed that the letter from Huntsville Utilities was genuine and the $100 increase was the direct result of Trump's EO.

BREAKING: The White House rescinded President Trump's order to freeze all federal funding, including grants for public health, education, and safety.

Finally, the fearful part will be an attempt to re-establish the largely ineffective 2018 China Initiative. The most recent effort made it to the 2024 senate. So likely to see another wave of harm from racial profiling of Chinese students and professors rooted in protecting research security.

Another super untapped way to bolster US AI talent: community college degrees, these are non-advanced degrees that could produce talent for over 800K (data from 2022) non-technical AI jobs. Work from the superb @lukekoslosky.bsky.social

The hopeful part: Increase in visas for highly skilled STEM talent. H1B visas are valid for at least 3 years & have careful restrictions “to fill openings for which American workers with similar abilities cannot be found.”

Changes from ds and Qwen 2.5-Max. Fearfully - NatSec rhetoric to CCP-fear–monger US-China relations resulting in real harm to individuals. As I’ve said ds was not that surprising. Hopefully - a push from USG to see US AI talent as worthy of investment (eg. foreign-born folks, education, alt paths)

Office hot take on deepseek, very talented team using lots of methods to optimize their algorithm (as opposed to dumping tons of compute and data into it). Not surprising since US export controls intended to slow their compute access. Kind of unverifiable to know how much development compute cost.
