In December this year, it is 10 years since my first academic publication. It was published in JAERE and asked when lowering the discount rate can be bad for future generations.
Some light Sunday reading to fill that post-Olympic void:
"Beliefs, evidence, and action towards the green energy transition" with Mark Freeman, @bengroom.bsky.social & @frikknesje.bsky.social
Updated working paper: gwagner.com/beliefs
TL;DR: both evidence & prior beliefs matter, a lot.
:)
Looking forward to holding the Department Seminar at @sussexunibusiness.bsky.social on Dec 10.
I will present the paper "Intergenerational Discounting and Inequality" (joint with @pgpiacquadio.bsky.social). A new version, with many new insights, will be ready soon!

New publication: Designing Carbon Pricing Policies Across the Globe with Robert Schmidt and @moritzdrupp.bsky.social in Environmental and Resource Economics!
We present the largest international expert survey on carbon pricing design (400+ participants, ~40 countries). Some highlights.
Project summary: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/95kow...
How to use COβ tax or quota revenues? Here opinions diverge β no clear consensus emerges among experts.
74% of experts β regardless of countries & background β support border carbon adjustments: import taxes tied to COβ pricing, plus compensation for COβ-intensive exports.
Twice as many experts prefer a COβ tax over trading in COβ quotas (like the EU ETS). But: the ο¬gures mask signiο¬cant geographical and economic differences.

Tysklands Olav H. Hauge.
Kvar nominerer eg til litteraturprisen?
Whoa! Elsevier fired @richardtol.bsky.social, longstanding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Energy Economics. Richard's side of the story should be ringing alarm bells. #EconSky

Cool stuff!

Great program π
My first "reply all" of the academic year.
π± Do you know early career (PhD/Postdoc) researchers that work on #EnvironmentalEconomics, #EcologicalEconomics,
#ClimateEconomics and/or #EnergyEconomics?
π¦ If yes, are they already on Bsky?
βοΈ let me know, so I can add them
β encourage them to join Bsky and then let me know

By all indications, last years economics job market was much tougher than any year since the pandemic. But all signs point towards an even worse job market coming up this season.
Let me explain.
I never listened much to Black Sabbath. I am more the folk type, I guess. But today I listened a bit for the obvious reasons⦠I have to say, it is quite good!
