Publish or perish! Every single scientist, every academic is desperate to be the first to publish a paper on something new and revolutionary. A conspiracy of silence wouldn't last five minutes.

Thank you for including Y2K. As someone who spent almost two years fixing dodgy old code I've got this eye twitch that starts every time someone calls Y2K a conspiracy.

Had to read this three times before I stopped reading "babestation"
Hmm - Jedi, Terms Of Endearment, Flash Dance, Trading Places and War Games. I'm really not sure what that says about 2026 for me - some tears, some classic moments and some stuff that will look very dated in the future maybe?
Maybe its because I'm older but all by Dad's and Mum's siblings are married. The people they are married to are a) also my aunts and uncles, b) not blood related to me.
Surely everyone has half their aunts and uncles they aren't blood related to?

The OSR has a tendency to fetishize a lot of old D&D stuff but they do think about the hows and whys of stuff like this. Rations/torches/resting becoming interesting and tactical/strategic when resources are limited. We don't have to play that way but it can be fun.
Yep, 100%. Try to work out how to teach my students to use it, most importantly use it well and ethically. And, given our field, develop it well and ethically.
I grew up in the NE of Scotland, compared to the dirty great seagulls we got the pigeons were positively charming.

There's a joke here about difficulties in training the leopards means having to put the roll out on paws but I can't quite land it.
So Tron was a huge part of my childhood but after Tron 2 I never thought I'd get excited about another Tron film.
Oh my!
Does xmas pressie record vouchers count?
Was watching something set in ye olden days and a character said they couldn't phone out because there was no power in the house. I don't remember ever having to power an old phone..
