Congratulations on the ATNO! I havenβt been able to copy them yet for a ATNO but hope springs.
Or thereβs a cask of Amontillado involved.
Been doing it a while. Iβm a very little whistle but I have a lot of fun.
Not really boasting since I was the only high power entry from Virginia and several low power ops out-scored me. But rules are rules and I have to enter as HP because my rug runs 200w. Itβs all just for fun.
I didnβt get your county - maybe next time. I was happy to get a GUI, where my daughter went to college.
North Carolina QSO Party was fun. I was hoping for a lot of new stations to work once the after-church folks got home and finished lunch but that didnβt happen. Still got about as many Qs as in SC party yesterday.
The South Carolina QSO Party was fun. From where I live, 40 and 80 are the only useful bands. Lots of good signals there on both SSB and CW. The dedicated cluster site for this contest was very helpful especially in finding mults. Tomorrow, on to chasing North Carolina.
I plan to play. Have fun!
I just got word that I had the top US/VE YL high power score in the 2025 California QSO Party.
How cool!
I have to enter as high power even though I donβt use an amplifier and put just 200 watts to the antenna. Rules are rules.
I belong to a contest club and especially enjoy state QSO parties. I also enjoy hunting Parks on the Air.
ARRL DX CW worked out well for me. I made my goal of at least 100 Qs on each of 10-40, plus some on 80. Haven't done that well in years and had a Yagi back then instead of a wire loop. Thinking kind thoughts for the friend who designed my loop.
Also they just go ahead and confirm on LoTW rather than requiring us to jump through hoops including $$. On the whole, this operation has been a class act and given lots of people a ATNO.
Well done! It sure helps to be able to ascertain weβre in the log, so insurance contacts are unnecessary.
After wrangling all the documents to send to my accountant for tax returns I rolled over to the radio desk to see whatβs on. I needed KP5 on 12m and got it! Nice reward for getting the paperwork finished.
Worked W1AW/8 in Michigan & W1AW/5 in Texas this evening. Back to Olympics on TV. This year no sob story vignettes that used to annoy me with USA TV shows of Olympics. Greater variety of sports shown too. I who canβt stand up on ice skates & wouldnβt get in a bobsled for a million $$ love to watch.
ARRL International DX Contest CW this weekend. Bands were decent for WPX RTTY last weekend so fingers crossed. This month makes 43 years in ham radio for me. What fun such friends β what a wild ride.
The sponsors of the Virginia QSO Party have added a spelling challenge to this yearβs event keyed to the βVirginia is for Loversβ slogan. K4L K4O K4V K4E K4R K4S will be bonus stations. See the announcement on page 90 of March QST.
W1AW/4 in Florida and W1AW/1 in Massachusetts are in the log on the first night of operation. I don't generally work each state's operations more than once, but this evening I decided it would be fun to get 3 modes. So I worked /1 on FT8 and CW and /4 on SSB. Just for fun.
Congratulations. Husband and I used to debate (humorously) which of us put up with the most nonsense over the years. Couldnβt decide. We were still debating at year 49 when he became Silent Key. May you have many more years to win medals.
Some of them werenβt born yet.
Finally got the last of the weekβs W1AW/x operations in the log last night. AL VT & IN were easy catches. KS not so. Got βem on 30m FT8 then I was called & ran for a while. Still no NM and AK worked for WAS/250.
OOPS! New set of W1AWs starts tonight - Tuesday.
I noticed the slow uploading but theyβll get there. I so enjoy these year-long chases.
Preparing remarks for local ham friendβs memorial service. He was smart, funny, kind. Always ready to share his technical know-how with liberal arts majors like my OM and me. Installed grab handles beside my back door steps after OM fell & got concussion. Good ham, good friend.
W1AW/x on from 4 states starting tomorrow night. AL IN VT KS. So that will be /4 /9 /1 /0. VT QSO Party honchos says W1AW/1 will be in the contest. Whole lotta chasinβ goinβ on.
Also called them Communists.
Both of the W1AW/x portables of the week are in the log on the first evening of operation. /7 is in Utah, /1 is in Maine. And my driveway was plowed this afternoon.
W1AW/9 from Illinois is in the log on 20 meters. Just one state is on the air this week. Next week we chase Maine and Utah.
A reminder that I am not in charge of the universe: ham radio friend whoβs a smart kind funny person has died from a condition endured for 5 years. Bad things also happen to bad people but I would have put a lot of them way ahead of my friend in the Exit line. If I were in charge which Iβm not.
