Change in Paris air quality between 2007 and 2023 using visuals
Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.socialβs leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.
Good trade.
Oh so weβre just doing this now huh
Raised crosswalk on Kauai
A raised crosswalk on a state-owned highway?
They* said it couldn't be done!
*every state DOT except for Hawaii apparently
And they say no oneβs rides the busβ¦.
When people say things like "what about disabled people?" or "do you expect people to bike to the hospital?" as an argument against building better bike infrastructure, I always think of this particular member of the Chicago biking community. Glad to see her story featured today. π
Literally running to the bus on the corner so I donβt miss it

I donβt. Iβm transpo policy. Is it a lot?
In CA bike lanes have to go through environmental clearance and community engagement, where they are often opposed and then die. Guess what doesnβt? Car infrastructure.
I think thatβs his point. Why did MA just commit clean energy to a shit Tom of community engagement when βdirty energyβ doesnβt have to fulfill these requirements? It makes it harder to get clean energy built.
I know right!!! That only took 8 years plus the 30+ it spent on the community plan.
Yes, the contractor first working day is Jan 6th but we wonβt see them breaking ground until Feb/march. Weβre working on sending notices to impacted residents/businesses soon.
βWe found thereβs this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10% then driving in that city went up by 10%.β Still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads leads to more driving. After years of arm-twisting, I am super excited that the State of Washington is one step closer to ending its Woonerf Ban. (Watch this space as the next legislative session convenes in January).
"If you ask people what streets are for, they say cars. That's opposite of what they said one hundred years ago...Streetsβvenues of myriad public activities as late as 1920βwere redefined as exclusive transport ways."
All those books about the declines and falls of empires that I never read.... do they cover how dumb things were? I was unprepared for how dumb things were going to get.
Trying at least!!

PowerPoint slide: Modal share for Oslo. Two pie charts.
Oslo is presenting the results of its cycling strategy 2015-2025. Modal share:
π²π 6% to 9%
ππ 35% to 26%
Iβll get right on that
Well maybe the San Diego folk can all pick just one. Iβm a little burnt out on social media these days.
The problem is after the Twitter collapse there wasnβt just one- it was threads, blue sky, mastodon. Anyway here I am.
