so you've probably heard about the London measles outbreak. A lot of people are talking about anti-vax misinformation, but that's not actually the problem here. The problem is austerity. π§΅
urgh the absolute dirt-worst they arem you have my sympathies. Very inconsistent in how they respond to meds too, in my experience. Sometimes ibuprofen, sometimes sudafed nasal spray, sometimes antihistamines. Sometimes just whinging for several days is all you can do (ymmv) π©
Ah this is ace, thanks for sharing. I love an etymology rabbit hole, I'm going in!
if they can offer free AI training they could offer free media literacy training too. i know which of those would do more for the public good

Morning folks - for all the people at Govcamp who were asking me about the National Data Library here is an actual, official update with some specifics...for the first time I think π

Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.
As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.
Here's what happened:
thanks Sophie, am really glad to hear it. Here's to more messy sharing :)
Minnesota: "School officials say the [5-year-old] child was used as bait. They say [ICE] agents made little Liam knock on the door to ask to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home."
I do not just want ICE abolished. I want the entire system that enabled this razed to the fucking ground. And no, I do not think that is an unreasonable ask.

"Every bombed village is my hometown" - James Baldwin And every dead child is my child. Every grieving mother is my mother. Every crying father is my father. Every home turned to rubble is the home I grew up in. Every brother carrying the remains of his brother across borders is my brother. Every sister waiting for a sister who will never come home is my sister. Every one of these people are ours, Just like we are theirs. We belong to them and they belong to us.
I wrote this poem as an homage to Baldwin and to hear it being sung across the world or read in protests has been my own guiding light of hope.
Incredibly emotional to hear my poem has been turned into a song of resistance and is being sung in Minneapolis right now. Please do not give up.
NO ONE WAY WORKS, it will take all of us shoving at the thing from all sides to bring it down. Diane di Prima
Good morning, I am once again reminding you all that we are going to keep pushing and we are going to win:
my first job was in a greengrocer and I am weirdly comforted that this 400 year old rendering pretty accurately captures the mood. Didn't have a shop cat though :(
Technical design *is* business process design *is* team design *is* service design *is* user centred design. If you insist that one is superior to another or that you donβt need to concern yourself with all aspects, youβre doing your organisation and your users a disservice. This course looks great!
very excited to hear about the new gig - I'll have to pop up to Briz to hear all about it when you've got your feet under the table!
OF THE EMPIRE We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.
Ever relevant, this poem by Mary Oliver, especially today.

Aspirational tbh, I don't know how you do this regularly, I would expect a medal each time. I don't get up to 3000 or whatever but zero? never m8.

Teen Vogue produced some of the best political reporting in the nation and weβre not even a year into this cursed presidency
The firing of black women & trans people from Teen Vogue is a devastating loss
Teen Vogue listened to young people
It spoke to young people
It tackled topics other media outlets were afraid to cover
Its political coverage represented diverse voices. It didnβt bend a knee
Which is why itβs gone
A quote card from Professor Nicola Ranger that says "The reality is that our health and social care system only functions because nursing staff of every ethnicity, nationality, and faith make it so."
𧡠| Today weβve released data showing a 55% increase in calls to our advice line from members experiencing racism at work since 2022. We now receive on average three calls a day on this topic.
This is beyond unacceptable. (1/2)
