Paramount acquiring Warner Bros. has Hollywood asking hard questions about jobs, streaming survival and even the company’s new name. β€œIt’s going to be worse than you think,” one longtime exec tells @snoodit.bsky.social, who lays out 10 key questions and predictions theankler.com/p/10-burning...

This week’s report from @filmtvcharity.bsky.social highlights 74% of freelancers are considering leaving the industry, 43% have taken concrete steps to do so & 22% are experiencing β€œsustained worklessness”… this is an existential crisis for the UK screen arts.

Tubi’s Gen Z Grab in the U.K. Heats Up SCOOP: Its Creators program heads to Britain as its GM explains strategy β€” and the HBO Max threat

Tubi will be licensing local UK creator content, as well as commissioning creator-led originals. Why should the talent care? Because, generally, AVOD CPMs > FAST CPMs > YouTube CPMs πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ. theankler.com/p/tubis-gen-...

Tubi’s Gen Z Grab in the U.K. Heats Up SCOOP: Its Creators program heads to Britain as its GM explains strategy β€” and the HBO Max threat

Scoop: Nearly 2 years since its UK launch, Gen Z hit Tubi is getting ready to dive into local content. But rather than investing in premium drama like its competitors, the streamer's tapping into Britain's creatorverse to super-serve its young audience. @theankler.com theankler.com/p/tubis-gen-...

A Lucy Letby doc on Netflix, a six-part Jesy Nelson docuseries on Prime Video... The UK contingents of the global streamers are moving fast and making really smart plays in factual. Back when the SVODs first landed in the UK, we'd say "they're going to steal the PSBs' lunch." And now, they are.

Frederick Wiseman, 96, Penetrating Documentarian of Institutions, Dies He exposed abuses in films like β€œTiticut Follies,” a once-banned portrait of a mental hospital, but ranged widely in subject matter, from a Queens neighborhood to a French restaurant.

Frederick Wiseman, a director whose rigorously objective explorations of social and cultural institutions constitute one of the more revered bodies of work in American documentary filmmaking, died on Monday. He was 96. nyti.ms/4qGpq55

Frederick Wiseman, American documentary filmmaker, dies at 96 Wiseman made immersive, dispassionate explorations of how institutions work.

Had the pleasure of meeting Frederick Wiseman twice in my career, and they remain some of my most memorable interviews. It's hard to imagine the world, let alone the documentary community, without him in it. www.reuters.com/business/med...

HBO Max confirmed March 26 launch date in UK/Ireland today. Sky divorce clearly underlined as JB Perrette says β€œthe only complete offering is HBO Max.” Sky will have new series of HBO shows that premiered there pre-HBO Max UK launch, but not first seasons, ie. Sky will get Euphoria S3 but not S1&2.

I really enjoyed #QueenOfChess. Everyone should know who Judit PolgΓ‘r is, just as we know Bobby Fischer and Garry Kasparov. Odd how this doc didn’t come out years ago
alongside The Queen’s Gambit (way back in 2020). Netflix would never miss that trick now.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

I had a C-section & β€œspeedy” recovery. But only because I forced myself to be OK, to be strong, so I could look after my son. I didn’t have a single day in bed recovering with my child because my partner was back at work in a matter of weeks. We need to bring paternity leave out of the dark ages.

C-sections are now more common than β€˜natural’ births About 45 per cent of births in England were caesareans, while only 43 per cent were spontaneous, NHS data reveals. Obesity and older mothers are said to be factors

C-sections now more common than vaginal birth & require min. 6 weeks’ recovery. (And that’s a generous estimation.) Yet paternity leave in the U.K. is up to 2 weeks. How are recovering mothers meant to function, let alone care for an infant solo? Make it make sense. www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcar...

More than 50 child asylum seekers still missing after disappearing from Kent care Council data obtained by the Guardian shows 345 children have gone missing in recent years, many probably taken by traffickers

These poor kids didn’t stand a bloody chance…

345 vulnerable kids, seeking asylum and then lost by our authorities

50 still missing

Likely to traffickers

How could this have happened?
