Sounds about right.
Sounds about right.
While I agree with you, I somehow donβt think that will happen.
It was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one π
Me, when the βbounty-hunter/do-gooderβ introduces herself in @mikechenwriter.bsky.socialβs βLow Red Moon.β
Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the TaΓnos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Kind of reminds me of this gem from @theneedling.com

Abolish DHS. If you can imagine a world before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, you can imagine a world without the Department of Homeland Security. My latest at @startribune.com. (gift link)
Could have stopped that question before the word βonβ
I laughed harder at this than I expected π
βProfessional grade logisticsβ makes me think he was always THAT dude in every group project who never did shit and never bothered himself to wonder how anything got done.
Non-masked MN National Guard are out handing out hot chocolate, coffee and donuts to protesters. One simple act has de-escalated the situation and helped gain the trust of people. See the difference between professional soldiers and the pretend tough guys in CBP and ICE?
The Sons of Liberty would like a word.
Can attest to this. Sadly, Iβd kind of been in this camp in my younger days (not my parentsβ fault, they were never conservative- I was just a real life Alex Keaton). It - again, sadly, but better late than never - took grad school to finally learn how to put myself in other peopleβs shoes.
Damn, somehow I never made this last connection. Good point.
I guess I really need to find someone in accounting, because apparently Iβve got about 8 months of back pay to sort out (and have been out of paying work for just about as long) π
βAs necessaryβ β¦ I suspect itβs been part of their plans/aspirations all along. Not white? Not Christian? Not straight? This administration probably already has a plan to dispose of you.
White supremacy requires us to remain loyal to our whiteness in order to be afforded the protections of said whiteness. You stand with immigrants, Black and brown folks? You forfeit those privileges and no longer receive those protections, and you will perhaps be shot in the street as a result
50 year old white retired navy officer, and Iβve been volunteering with our local Indivisible organization since April. Itβs always heartening to see other folks βbreaking the mold,β as it were.
Think I saw one of those for every division last night.
Yeah, the whole βdonβt show up to a protest armedβ as if these werenβt the same folks lionizing Rittenhouse.
And stuff like βif she was such a good mother she wouldnβt risk orphaning her kid by being thereβ regarding Renee Good.
Real class people. My circle has contracted a lot these past years
This - and the replies - has been great to see. I havenβt even made it all the way through and already shared the link in a chat with some friends who arenβt all on Bluesky who could stand to see this dose of hope.
Yeah, what little I still see from some extended family and former colleagues in an earlier profession/questionable life choice suggests plenty are downright enthusiastic about all this, and others may be tentatively clutching their pearls but still victim-blaming while they do so.
I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
I suspect most of the ones I knew are currently downright giddy.
ICE is now responsible for 66% of the homicides in Minneapolis this year.
In solidarity with today's ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA blackout, MinnMax is donating $1 to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for every share of this Bluesky post for the next hour.
People might argue that ICE is not recruiting quality agents.
But I would insist that they are in fact successfully recruiting the exact sort of person needed to carry out the mission: reactionary, angry, violent people who donβt believe in democracy.

As someone who tries pretty hard to be in the first direction these days, I think thereβs a lot to be said for that.
Either that, or they were the bullies, but everyone moved on and just left them behind and they miss the rush.
We are far past the stage of permissiveness with white-supremacist violence inside DHS. We are witnessing ICE transition into a death squad.
This cannot be reformed. The only question is who will fight to abolish it, and who will accommodate it instead.
