Healthy life expectancy is an interesting parameter. It is useful to know how long before the troubles start… but I also worry it’s going to turn into “how long before you are a drain on society…”

Life expectancy is one of the parameters I was keeping an eye on… and warned about years ago before we “opened up” in Australia.
We’ll see how this plays here, but I’m very sad for my country of birth.
I hope he is ok. He put so much effort into correcting misinformation. 💔
I see Prof Peter Doherty seems to have left social media. I hadn't thought about him in a while...

It’s not climate disaster or plagues.
It’s “AND”…
Take a look at mozzie and tick-borne diseases…
Flood associated diseases…
Diseases that impact the heart and lungs… that will bite harder if you’ve been breathing in smoke from bushfires…
I’m annoyed. Not because I suddenly want to undergo a personality transplant and spew hate speech… but because it’s hard enough being responsible for one’s own internet footprint…
You know what… I think I recall a phase of having to close replies on Twitter… and I used to close them after one day… so I might try that again here, and hopefully the amount of pruning I must do will be reduced… but we can still chat, sort of.
To help guide you about how Australian law interprets speech, if you think it’s illegal to insert a protected group, like “Muslim”,“Jew”, into a sentence, the same applies to “Israeli” and “Zionism”.
I’m not a legal expert, but from what I heard on the radio, that seems to be the rules.

Actually, I think that case might have been tried in a neighbouring state.
If you could help me out by deleting your own posts in my replies, that would be helpful.
This new standard makes it impossible to run a SoMe account tbh… I’ll have to stay awake forever pruning the chatter.
Australian law now holds me responsible for the contents of your posts.
Anti Zionism has been found to be against the law in my state.
I have to show that I have taken reasonable steps to moderate content.
Therefore I will be deleting some of your posts and I may close replies and quotes.
It’s one thing to say HAI will happen from time to time in the context of proper maintenance and cleaning (including air filtration) of hospitals.
It’s quite another to underfund or neglect the maintenance, cleaning and repair of buildings, and then just put your hands up.

Clearly, our systems for moderating the acquisition and abuse of power are not strong enough.
Faithfull grows sombre when shown a clip of herself at 60 declaring that she loved being that age, feeling healthy and philosophical about things. “Now I’m less philosophical. I hate what’s happened to me. Covid did this.”’

That is something… but I wish it wasn’t so rare that we feel like getting a full parade marching down the street to celebrate it.
Good on you for sorting that all out… 🤩

Respirators increase source control by (an) order(s) of magnitude, depending on fit.
They should be the default choice to protect patients from airborne viruses.
Had some covid/virus safe wins this week. Hospital in the home nurses and doctor accepted wearing masks. We've been seeing them in a room with window open and door to outside epen, air purifier. They rejected wearing Auras from us but wore the higher standard of surgicals. It's something. They ...

An illustration from Long COVID Transformed My Sister Into a Turtle shows a turtle wearing sunglasses and headphones. The text reads, "My mommy is like a turtle that doesn't want to come out of her shell. She avoids loud noises and bright lights. She prefers cozy, quiet places."
We haven’t seen many narratives about — or for — kids whose family members have #LongCOVID. Author and educator Sara Robitaille seeks to change that with her two new children’s books, Long COVID Transformed My Mommy and Long COVID Transformed My Sister into a Turtle. bit.ly/4csWXfE
I just ordered "Long COVID Transformed My Mommy" for my 5 yo grand daughter. I don't get to see her often because I have long COVID and can't risk her giving it to me again. I worry that she'll think I don't love her. Maybe this will help her understand. (I'll substitute Granny for Mommy.)

Nice pics!
From a pathogens perspective… very cool.
Indeed.
Screenshot of an article dated March 3, 2026 titled “‘Mini hearts’ show COVID-19 virus directly infects heart tissue” by the Centenary Institute. Below the headline are four labeled microscope images (A–D) showing laboratory-grown heart tissue (“mini hearts”). The images use fluorescent colors—green, yellow, red, and white—to highlight cells and viral infection patterns, illustrating how SARS-CoV-2 can infect and spread through heart muscle cells in the tissue samples.
COVID-19 can directly infect heart tissue.
Researchers at the Centenary Institute and UTS created a human heart cell model showing SARS-CoV-2 can directly infect heart tissue, helping explain why some people develop serious heart complications during and after COVID-19 infection.
