I know it's a long shot, but I hope everything going on with Lud serves as a sobering reminder of why politics in community spaces, especially niche communities, are important. At any moment, there are politicians and their police deciding people in your community cannot be a part of ANY community.

RYAN’S COMMUNITY GIVING GUIDE

I originally created this giving guide as a way to amplify the challenges my communities were facing in 2020, and I’ve heard from lots of people who expressed a desire to help but don’t know where to start or who to support. I created this guide to highlight and uplift some of the important work happening, and encourage you to choose some of these efforts to support through donations, volunteering or mutual aid for Giving Tuesday and beyond.

For the sixth edition, I have made some additions and changes to the organizations listed in the guide, and expanded sections on health and social justice programming. Our communities are filled with people dedicated to building a more just and loving future, and I’m glad to be able to share some of that with you.

I’ve also started a free newsletter at www.creating.care - a place to explore in-depth my writing, art, organizing work and intersections with the people and groups weaving care into our community in a meaningful way.

Because this is centered around my communities and values, it is not a comprehensive guide by any means; the guide and artwork are both available under a Creative Commons license (CC-BY-NC-SA) and I would be elated if others spread love for community-based work in their own communities. The best gift I can receive during this season is knowing someone contributed to these efforts after reading this guide, so please reach out and share your support for these community pillars with me on social media or email!

In love and solidarity,

Ryan Henyard

love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region

Kinda makes you wonder whether all the sweaty, performative talk about "self-reliance" and all the hatred directed at urbanites is about a deep subconscious awareness of their dependence. Maybe they recognize on some level that they can't hack it on their own.

One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.

Hey, remember how we let a nazi near-trillionaire annihilate the US state capacity? I know it was a whole year ago, but it turns out that this has consequences beyond "murdering 14 million people by ending USAID" (which apparently no one cared about).

this one fucked me up so much. guy turns his life around after a drug conviction, becomes a happy, beloved, pet rescuing houseboat dad who undersells his mechanic services so poor folks can afford them. ICE grabs him one day out of the hospital for heart problems which then kill him. horrifying

If you continue the scene as Dunk turns around, watch his cheeks and mouth as his breathing returns to heaving, panting, and hyperventilating. Dunk is trying to make a joke to assuage Egg; however, he's trying his hardest to settle his own nerves.

You know how I can tell people weren't closely watching A Knight Of The Seven Kingdom?

During In The Name Of The Mother (S1E5, and SPOILERS), Dunk retells Egg a joke from S1E2, "rob me, and I'll hunt you down, with dogs." A lot of people found this callback funny.

it's not the issue of this story, but it is a transparent example of how the "cars are freedom" narrative is a complete farce. when the state controls your movement and can immobilize you on a whim, you are not free. car dependency is an arm of fascism for the car *IS* fascism and must be abolished.
