I definitely hated Saltburn for the shitty-ass politics and I'm expecting a re-run of that, as that's a main reason I hate things. Meanwhile, something being horny is one of the main things I love something π₯

And it makes me rather wonder if we should have compelling villains anyway, considering how they are IRL. Should John be so sympathetic? Should we actually empathize with villains? Don't have any answers, just thinking about it pretty intensely.
John is such a great villain, his chapters are so heavily a narrative, the one he wants it to be and he is so incredibly compelling as a villain, as a character. But when I look around, I only see non compelling ass-wipes basically being the villains, without any complexity whatsoever.
The happiness and joy that happens in my brain when I see something so intentional and fresh-feeling and like I have no idea where it's going to gooooo
I'm sure this is no way connected to Microsoft and OpenAI being in bed together and basically fucking up the earth royally with myriads data centers...
Also I personally watched The Next Generation when I was 12 and that's when I became a Trekkie! (cca 1997).
'women are not interested in science fiction' lol, I'd like to invite this guy to the Berlin Scifi book club where most of the time it's half and half, even if people come and go.
Fully support what Jack is saying here, we need more recognition of collective work and not singling out individuals, especially when they're involved in super collective work. Why not award orgs and coalitions?
A paragraph of text, saying: "A detailed analysis from Prensa Latina states that in 2018, she was reported as having "sought Netanyahu's help to overthrow Maduro -and promised to relocate Venezuela's embassy in Israel to Occupied Jerusalem". This commitment is further corroborated by the Samidoun network, which also reports that she "pledged to reestablish diplomatic ties with 'Israel' but to establish a Venezuelan embassy in occupied Jerusalem".
Also this, shamelessly stolen from Fb.
Before we celebrate the whole Peace Prize winner and take for granted what the committee said about her, can we check on her freaking politics? Like how she wants to privatize the oil sector and renew engagement with international financial institutions?
there really is something inherently abusive about AI. Buying into the hype means you are perpetually gaslighting your workers while desperately explaining away its faults as if they're either your own or your employees. Very nasty stuff.
The real dark side of academia? Not knowing you have ADHD π€£
Could do a little horror-ish story about the journalism classes we used to have in this Chemistry dept building back in Bucharest. It was super atmospheric.
The last few months I've gotten into looking at posts from craft groups, embroidery groups, diorama groups and such. I realize now that I find comfort in them because they're beautiful things that people make with their hands and not digital slop
The thing about science is when it works, people don't realise it because it just eliminates the problem. Take quicksand. In the 80s it was a HUGE issue, it was everywhere. Now its mostly eradicated and we barely give it a thought, but ask any kid from the 80s, they'll tell you what it was like then
Oh my!! I need to rewatch it myself, is it on any of the streamers?
Bunny Sparber (@maxsparber) on twitter: "I guess I'm a socialist because I want even Nazis to have free health care and I guess I'm antifa because I want them to need it."
You know you can just not use AI, right?
You can make a choice not to be part of this.
Even if your job uses it, YOU donβt have to in your normal life. You donβt have to let your kids use it.
You didnβt have it three years ago. You can justβ¦be on Team Human. You can choose.
Ok, the plague doctors would normally be anachronistic, but Nicholas Cageβs presence in anything renders it secondary world, as he is not actually from this world.
Very happy to have edited Jack's first essay in his brand new newsletter, which you should absolutely subscribe to, cause *gulp* we need all the hope we can get these days!
Trans protesters holding a sign that says "fix your heart" with David Lynch on it
Fix your hearts!
A tremendous loneliness comes over you. Everybody in the world is doing something without you.
Once again I am watching The Pitt while eating and once again it is a mistake. The eating, not The Pitt, I rather like The Pitt.
That was really good & cathartic for me, since sometimes I feel like such an odd duck for finding successful (and well written) books utterly boring and lacking in interest. Liars sounds like extremely not for me. But great writing!
Some random mutual aid Signal chat: No real names used, nothing ever leaks. Messages delete after one hour, a guy complains that it's not set at 10-minute delete. Everyone knows each other in real life, says nothing.
The Department of Defense: idk just add anyone whose phone number start with 7.
Pretty darn annoyed that duckduckgo tried to give me some sort AI assist today, twice!! The second time was after I changed my settings and said I never want AI :( I'm tired.
Getting sick & tired of all the older actresses saying that they don't need / want / weren't aware of intimacy coordinators. Can't you just like shut up and let progress happen for the younger generation??
Well, traditionally, a doppelganger is the dark side of you or something unexpressed that you must be confronted with, so they can be unpredictable. Who knows? Haha
Without a doubt, if she wants to as well!
I want the creators of The Good Fight to make an intensely political & dramatic revival of Parks and Recreation that's all about the current moment. It would probably be 2 episodes though, if I'm realistic, until all the jobs are cut.
