Harrison Fordβs lifetime achievement speech has done me in
I donβt believe you were being partisan- merely principled.
Are there some people who can't work because they're ill and would like to better and work? Sure.
Does that mean getting people back to work should be something the NHS is responsible for? Absolutely not.
And I doubt the NHS would be improved by adopting aspects of the benefits system's culture.
Fundamentally flawed thinking in so many ways. As I have said elsewhere this morning, meaningful work is health creating. The idea that the NHS will get people
healthy and they will then magically re-enter the workplace is bollocksology of the highest order.
Totally agree. I worked on the original pathway to work programme 20 years ago. The big learning was that meaningful work is health creating. So βgetting people healthy again, so that they can get back to workβ is fundamentally flawed thinking.
Whatever happened to protest songs?
The enshittification of public discourse is a ploy of the right wing to make it impossible to hold them to account.
Where do these people come from? People who bandy around words like βderanged, lunatic, disgustingβ and clearly act with venom and spite when they come across folks they disagree with.
If my children had ever spoken like that, they would have been told that itβs no way of behaving.
The fixer gene has got a lot to answer forβ¦.
Would love toβ¦.
Omg can you imagine...
And it could be livestreamed on YouTok or somethingππΏ
well that's very promising eh, good to hear thatπ
And was that you channelling Dick Emery?
I meant it mate. π
Iβm doing a bit of health coaching training around and about. Most clinicians lap it up- helps reconnect them with professional values. Main shift is βfrom fixer to facilitatorβ so healthcare professionals feel less burdened to problem solve for everyone they see. Itβs releasing.
Good to hear. Getting involved in health coaching gave me such a different perspective. Its strengths based and starts with βwhat can you do?β, rather than the pathologising βwhat canβt you do?β
Completely. No bandwidth. We ask too much of patients in general (often with a metaphorical wagging finger), but those struggling with relationships, finances, mental health conditions etc etc. Wellβ¦
Something important about professional humility here.
Hmm. I worked in NHSE for 8 years till end β23. It has been in almost constant flux since 2022 when the first round of job cuts came. If you work in NHSE, you know your job is on the line, so getting the βthank you for your serviceβ message should not come as a shock.
Right up your street @hpiandycowper.bsky.social
Ah thank you. Iβve retired as a doc though most of my career has been spent trying to support clinicians to be more empathetic. When they are not- well, your story says it all.
Always a pleasure to have a civil discussion on here, Alf.
And thank you. Glad you like them.
Totally get what you are saying too. And I love your posts- thank you.
Like many people, you have clearly been helped by seeing a psychiatrist and taking meds.
And, some GPs arenβt as good as we would like.
But they are not just gate keepers, mental health is their main workload, and nationally, there is strong evidence that we prescribe to many anti-depressantsβ¦

Nope
This is a bit of a quietly momentous post for me. If you saw my recent posts on here you will know my family and I have been going through a very challenging time. But I know that humour will be my way through it and so Iβve decided to post my nonsense again.
I present the most interesting graph ever made.

They move out. They go to Uni. They come back for hols and mess up your entire home. Then they leave Uni and get jobs (and still come and crap up the house at holiday time) but need help with rent then with mortgage deposit. Then they get you to look after their kids
And itβs all crazily wonderful.
Never ends either. I thought that at 18 it would calm down a bit. No bloody chance. π
