Jesse Brown thinks that Palestine solidarity is a modern KKK Just don't ask what that makes the modern KKK into!

This is the federal government too, not just Alberta. Canada as a country (and the Liberal party) are equally to blame.

Good. They are making out like bandits getting public resources almost for free (some of the lowest royalties anywhere) and then they want taxpayers to clean up their mess. Glad to municipalities saying no.

Red Deer County rejects oil, gas company's bid for tax penalty forgiveness Outpost Energy Ltd.'s pitch could be viewed as precedent-setting if approved, administration told council

Love seeing this (and we need more municipalities taking action as well). According to data obtained by @brettmckay.bsky.social with @theijf.org, Red Deer County is owed more than $4.6 MILLION in unpaid municipal taxes from delinquent O&G companies. www.thealbertan.com/innisfail-ne... #ABLeg #ABPoli

Really impressed with the turnout for the meeting tonight, especially since it's still technically winter! From my eye-count, there's just over 40 people in the room including both landowners and other concerned community members. People are concerned about oil & gas cleanup!!! #ABLeg #ABPoli

On termination of a surface or mineral lease, the licensee of the well or facility MUST abandon the well or facility. Landowners can't abandon a well themselves. But the big Q is: Will the AER properly carry out its mandate and follow the law? (From the crowd: "I wouldn't bet on it"). [7/N] #ABLeg

Mark reminds landowners that they cannot (or should not) deny entry to their land for the following reasons (photo / slide below), because it risks impacting their compensation. "Don't refuse entry, when they have the right of entry for these reasons." [6/N] #ABLeg #ABPoli

And if/when the surface lease is terminated, the well MUST be abandoned by law. IT. IS. MANDATORY. [5/N]

If/when a company fails to pay, landowners MUST give written notice to the operator that they are in default. Landowners HAVE to notify the company (yes, it's dumb). If the company doesn't pay after giving notice, landowners can terminate that lease. [4/N] #ABLeg #ABPoli

For O&G companies who aren't paying landowners for surface lease compensation: "If a company is in default, and you notify them of that default, you can terminate your lease agreement IF you follow the right procedures." [3/N] #ABLeg #ABPoli

Mark encourages landowners to know their rights. Landowners have the RIGHT to deny an oil & gas company access to their lands, HOWEVER, companies can still apply for a right-of-entry order, which allows the company to force their way onto your land. [2/N] #ABPoli #ABLeg

I sometimes worry that too many people think being a good critic means being a self-righteous dick about every little thing and I think far too many miss the point that you can't critique anything if you don't know how to love something.

Dumping tailings would never be allowed if it was Calgary's water supply at risk. The only reason this is even considered is because colonial governments (AB & CAD) think Indigenous lives are disposable & because we refuse to make companies pay to cleanup their mess properly. #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli

The Pathways Alliance CCS project is crucial to the new AB-CAD pipeline agreement, and Canada can't just abandon its duty to assess the impacts of "the "world's largest carbon capture project" (their own words), when the AER has already said NO to doing an assessment. #ABLeg #ABPoli #CDNPoli

Alberta, Ottawa agree on deal that would see province front its own major project reviews | CBC News Ottawa and Alberta have reached an agreement that will see the province take control of regulatory approvals for major projects, something they say will deliver those projects more expeditiously.

This agreement is AWFUL. For energy projects (of national interest), Canada will defer its responsibility for impact assessments to Alberta’s captive energy regulator (the AER), despite its legacy of putting industry profits over the public interest www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #CDNPoli #ABLeg #ABPoli

True story, CCS in Alberta has cost $150-$190/metric ton.

On my farm we have sequestered carbon for $35/metric ton. But as a farmer I get penalized subsidizing these more expensive carbon sequestration schemes, instead of being able to sell my carbon at market rate.
