AD #: 2025-23-51 Emergency Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2025-23-51 is sent to owners and operators of The Boeing Company Model MD-11 and MD-11F airplanes. Background This emergency AD was prompted by an accident where the left-hand engine and pylon detached from the airplane during takeoff. The cause of the detachment is currently under investigation. This condition could result in loss of continued safe flight and landing. FAA’s Determination The FAA is issuing this AD because the agency has determined the unsafe condition is likely to exist or develop in other products of the same type design. AD Requirements This AD prohibits further flight until the airplane is inspected and all applicable corrective actions are performed using a method approved by the Manager, AIR-520, Continued Operational Safety Branch, FAA.

2025-11-04: UPS MD-11F (N259UP, *1991) suffered an engine #1 explosion on take-off runway 17R at Louisville-Intl AP(KSDF), KY with 3 crew on board, lost height and crashed about 1 mile S of the runway. All occupants of flight #UP2956 to Honolulu perished. Also, 4 people on the ground died.
Use of the Hawaiian callsign and HA code concludes tonight as Alaska moves to a single air operator certificate at 00:01 Hawaiian Time on Oct 29. All the airline’s flights will be Alaska from here on out.

Two persons on the ground were fatally injured.
2025-10-18: Air China Airbus A321 (B-8583,*2017) en-route from Hangzhou to Seoul-ICN (#CA139) safely diverted to Shanghai-PVG following a thermal runaway of a Li-ion battery in an overhead compartment about 40 min into flight. The fire was contained by the cabin crew.

I really can’t see how they can survive with such massive cuts in the long term. The AerCap news last week seemed like positive news (from my limited understanding of that stuff), while this move reeks of desperation. That’s a huge loss of capacity, routes and consumer confidence.

United says it will swap out its entire Guam-based 737-800 fleet for the MAX 8 starting Feburary 2026.
That means the legandary Island Hopper and also Narita-operated desinations like Ulaanbaatar and Kaohsiung will see significant upgrades with the United NEXT cabins.
