Good gulls.
These are excellent, masterly gulls!
yeah, my alternative take is, 'damn I'm old, I need to get this done asap as time's a pressing and I got a bunch to do yet' (speaking from experience😭)
the eternal goal!
oof, very nice!
he's new to me, amazing stuff!
so good!
Yes, Pratt's output and mastery of the art is phenomenal, something to aspire to. The work may be somewhat dated content-wise of course.
His stuff is so great, not easy to find in English these days but wonderful work.
I recall looking at this stuff when young and marvelling at their abilities... something to strive for.
a Hugo Pratt illustration of Corto Maltese surrounded by seagulls.
this kind of mastery is a combination of 'this is all I need to do to draw a seagull' with 'this is all you need to look at to read that it is a seagull' (plus (or more importantly?) a touch of 'and I don't care if you think otherwise')
Lots of talk about age and mastering one's art lately. But for me, the real sign of being a master draughtsperson is to be able to capture the life and character of a seagull with about five rough lines à la Hugo Pratt and Alfonso Font. Once I can do that...
Pro Tip:
Art the shit out of it.
very kind, thanks!
hmm, no I did not!
