βOur vision for a fully-funded public education, where a professor can write and teach freely, and can challenge every vapid, cruel argument federal and state governments make, sustains us. Itβs what weβre fighting for.βΒ
βTodd Wolfson, AAUP President
Hearing about the building to win project, identifying concepts behind engagement and then discussing that into concrete ideas was a really valuable part of todayβs #UCU #ARPS AGM
We're kicking off this afternoon at the #UCU ARPS annual meeting with guest speaker @howardstevenson.bsky.social from @uonucu.bsky.social, talking about the Building to Win project. Situating our struggle & challenges in wider trends in tertiary education and the union movement in and beyond the UK.
In an unprecedented move, one reflective of the deeply unprecedented times at our university, UoN branches of three different unions (@UCU.org.uk, @unisonorg.uk, and Unite) have all successfully passed motions of no confidence in the Vice Chancellor and the entire executive board.
@etui.bsky.social and ETUCE will launch the book βGoverning Artificial Intelligence in the Higher Education Sectorβ on 4 March at 17:15 in Brussels. Join us for a discussion on AI, governance, quality, and working conditions in higher education.
NEW: AAUP President Todd Wolfson & council member Chenjerai Kumanyika sat down with the hosts of the excellent Citations Needed podcast to discuss the acceleration of Trump's assaults on American higher education & how the AAUP is fighting back.

Sorry mate. Post George Galloway and youβve lost me. Good luck with whatever you do - but if George Galloway is an ally youβre on a different side to me.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. Itβs dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
Stay free
Iβm ok. Iβm a survivor so this small agitator isnβt going to intimidate me from doing my work.
I donβt let bullies win.
Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.
A lot of people invoking Gramsciβs βold is dying, new is not yet born - morbid symptomsβ etc etc quote at the moment. Itβs good - but on Gramsciβs birthday be βmore Gramsciβ and donβt just rely on the βquotable quotesβ and, well, β¦ read Gramsci. Buon compleanno compagno

Hopefully the campaign to boycott the 2026 World Cup will grow. Everything about it has become toe-curlingly embarrassing. www.theguardian.com/football/202...

Letter from the University and College Union (UCU), dated 8 January 2026, from general secretary Dr Jo Grady to the UK foreign secretary. The letter condemns Israeli military attacks on Palestinian education, including a raid on Birzeit University, calls these actions βscholasticide,β and urges the UK government to hold Israel to account through diplomatic, military and economic sanctions.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military invaded Birzeit University, attacking students with live ammunition.
Israel's scholasticide is a core part of its attempt to obliterate the collective life of the Palestinian people.
We have written to Yvette Cooper urging the British government to take action.
We strongly condemn the military raid by Israeli forces on the campus of Birzeit University in Palestine.
Attacks on education communities are violations of human rights and international law.
Education International stands in solidarity with Birzeit University.

Was very happy to provide a foreword to this report by @uonucu.bsky.social - and delighted to co-author with @lopa.bsky.social. The report, produced collectively by union members, is amazing. @lopa.bsky.social is also amazing :-)
Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker π§΅
Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...
Very proud of my ex-colleagues in @uonucu.bsky.social - the commitment and resolve of members is extraordinary. Solidarity to them all - they deserve so much better.
