@rouhiroo.bsky.social: Indeed, monitoring and/or assessing in ways more sensitive to context and to the social contributions of research requires more time and expertise... so it is more resource intensive. But the (hidden) costs of science NOT addressing societal issues... aren't they gigantic?

@ismaelrafols.bsky.social we're seeing a change in how we understand #OPenScience to move beyond just access to outputs. It has to be about open CONNECTIONS leading to new outcomes. Monitoring outputs is important but narratives around connections/processes will be vital.

Q: What kinds of "impacts" are relevant? Something that helps develop a better tool to sell vs. something that saves lives in clinical work...which is more important? Ismael Rafols asking: www.universiteitleiden.nl/en/staffmemb...

When moderators shut down discussion -- even if it's 🌶️ -- they should be conscious of their positionally v. ?-er. When a posh, white British member of the establishment shuts down a POC -- it's a bad look. You care about equity? Walk the walk. Very disappointed #metascience2025 #metascience25

Great news: At #Metascience2025 @wellcometrust.bsky.social just announced its signature of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information!
Wellcome CEO John-Arne Røttingen made the important argument that open research information offers crucial evidence to support metascience.

@ismaelrafols.bsky.social writes in @isa-sociology.bsky.social that Open Science should be reframed to prioritise epistemic justice, as current access-focused implementations often exacerbate inequalities and fail to enhance societal impact.

Tally just ticked past 1900 signatures. Please keep spreading the word about the letter & asking people to sign. It's important to make the Royal Society aware (at their meeting on 03 March) just how much the scientific community wants them to speak up for their values. forms.gle/SfsDemyS8QhP...

The Case for Diversity and Inclusion in Research Information
Science is largely conducted in alignment with the interests of rich countries and people. If we really want science to be a public good, it needs to become more pluralistic.
While folks argue about which wealthy country is going to benefit most from the global LLM race... @ismaelrafols.bsky.social makes a case for making marginalised research topics visible, and the need for a multiple-perspective science observatory katinamagazine.org/content/arti... #metasciece
