Regardless of what you think of the occupation or SUPER UW, their experiences tell us a lot about protest movements on campus and the way universities are responding to pressure from the federal government. I hope you'll give the episode a listen.
In mid-January the students were reinstated at school. But during those 8 months, many had to pay back financial aid, lost their jobs, were evicted from on-campus housing, lost health insurance & had to pay medical bills for concussions, nerve damage & more due to use of force during their arrests.
Students submitted records requests and learned about a letter the Trump administration wrote the University implying the GSA would pull federal grant dollars if the University didn't adequately handle the protestors. We discuss that letter and so much more on the podcast.
