Hahaha yes. Also, genuinely, who reads the Telegraph? Like I get that the Mail is cheap & sold everywhere so ppl read it but who *makes the effort* to procure news from the Telegraph? (genuine Q)

Such a rich conversation - from a sharp analysis of the historical and internationalist context of the border regime to practical lessons about ongoing resistance movements.

Centred in the foreground is large, bold white text that reads "LOVE AND REVOLUTION," with the subtitle "a reading list" written in smaller white italics underneath.

Hello, I have a new book out in the spring with Picador and I would love it if you could help me spread the word.
IF WE TOLERATE THIS draws on years of work, to help readers understand why British politics is hurtling rightwards and what to do about it.

We don't want to become our own surveillance state, where we're all basically the walking ring cams of social justice. Also, the infrastructure is just impractical. Batteries, mounts, storage cards, secure off-loading, data management. Industries exist to make this kind of thing make sense for cops.
This makes more sense, but it still isn't a good idea. It's important that a thoughtful, conscientious person on the ground decides when to film and when not to. Sometimes, protesters break the law. If everyone's continuously filming everything, there's a lot to subpoena.
While it has been getting better over the last decade, large part of the UK labour movement suffers from the same problem that @sarahljaffe.bsky.social talks about here.
I recently wrote this on the barriers to organising migrant farm workers:

As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.β¨β¨ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.
Solidarity with all the brave people resisting this - in Minneapolis and everywhere. And full solidarity with every single person being pursued and persecuted by the violent policing of 'belonging', a practice inextricable from the racist settler-colonial capitalist state that is the US
Masked federal agents killing people in the streets to enact violent, racist policies ripping people from communities, into detention or for deportation. Border enforcement breeds, requires, enacts fascism.
I am trying not to post on these events in this state of mind but: I hope people understand what the observers are doing is brave and dangerous.
Iβm sorry to say itβs only a matter of time before we can no longer count the daily murders on one hand. Weβve already crossed so many lines but thereβs a harder one coming up that we canβt afford to pass, perhaps the last one itβs still possible to avoid. The urgency of this moment is absolute.
At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Here in Broadview, outside Chicago, a large group of faith leaders & protesters have gathered this morning outside of ICEβs detention center.
This looks like one of the largest protests on Beach St. in weeks, where the city of Broadview is still enforcing a small βfree speechβ zone. Itβs packed.
It's publication day for Read This When Things Fall Apart! So grateful to our contributors and to @akpress.org for making this book a reality. This is a strange time to be promoting a book, but I believe it's a text that has the potential to help us right now. Please get yourself a copy. β€οΈ
Also genuine recognition that there are different types of voters/constituencies who have a valuable voice in elections. UK politics speaks only to perceived voters and ignores everyone else. Large part of why we are in the position we are in today.
Happy pub day! A book for our times and beyond. Get a copy for yourself and 2 for others who might need it.
Donβt listen to anyone who minimizes the threat of a government that βonlyβ wants to tighten the authoritarian surveillance noose for βsomeβ people. THATS ALWAYS HOW IT BEGINS YOU FASCISM ENABLERS.
so basically, fuck anyone using the language of 'democracy' to legitimise their policies of premature death. They are not interested in democracy but in power, and that should be obvious. They do not need some faux democratic legitimacy they need a punch to the throat
Of course this has 'democratic' appeal in our warped society! And this narrative is used not only by fascist parties themselves, but by the media establishment and mainstream political parties to normalise and implement fascistic policies.
Policies of mass deportation and militarised borders are not any less fascistic because they have popular support. Fascism operates through offering majority groups superficial (and often material!) benefits at the expense of the subordination, expulsion, and extermination of imagined 'Others'.
Whatever false understanding of "democracy" we have under a capitalist and colonial system is still an avenue towards fascism, as the system itself breeds fascism.
One dangerously normalised thing (alongside all the other things) is this idea that if there are lots of people supporting something, it's not fascism, it's democracy. Masses of people supported slavery, segregation, apartheid, the british empire... Hitler was elected!
This is the 2nd anniversary of the start of a genocide that made Gaza the most dangerous place on earth for childrenβ that has raised a mirror to the rot at the core of our world.
Never has it been clearer that none of us are free until Palestine is free.
