As a break from the news, here's an old morbid history of science post I did about people in the olden days dying in the vicinity of ball lightning π§ͺ skullsinthestars.com/2014/05/06/d...

"Some books demand to be written in the same way some lambs demand to be silenced."
the horror! THE HORROR!
Ohh, that's a REALLY nice concept for a story! You have to be able to do something with that! He screwed up mine by not having the faintest idea how submarines work. I thought it would be fun to set one on the sub from TSOI but it has been a bit of a chore to write.
Ah man, that sounds infuriating! I blame HPL for not doing his research properly back in the day! ;-) It's really his fault I'm in this predicament...
A bit of additional research just revealed a historical implausibility which leaves my characters in an inescapable situation. I'm glad I realised it now, before too much of a teardown is required, but fixing it seems likely to significantly weaken the drama. It's very frustrating!
Well, fuck. I have written myself into a disastrous corner here. Technically it's more of an underwater chasm than a corner, but it has absolutely bollocksed this story. I actually don't know how I'm gonna salvage it.
Adrian Mole - Reanimator
At some point, I really want to find an excuse to write a character who talks exclusively in 80s playground slang. I think that would be fun. "Schilllllaci! That spider bully's dead mint. Doff on dog roll? Ah, lurgy! Fainites! Fainites barley!" etc.
Reminds me of my favorite/least-favorite joke.
What's the easiest way to find a typo in your book?
Wait until it's published, and open the book to a random page.
The VHS days were pretty wild, all right.
Prime example: These are for the same movie. π
Woodlice were also called this but also don't resemble pigs.
Years ago now, when I was writing Ashes which includes a lot of Elizabethan English, I remenber hitting a brick wall when trying to find out what centipedes were called before we called em centipedes. Anyway, turns out it's 'sows' or 'sowbugs' on the basis they were thought to resemble pigs. Wtff?
instantly assumed this was a kaiju situation
man, writing's exhausting. someone cook me dinner?
Silk and Foxglove anthology, a BIPOC erotic eco-horror anthology, with a collaged artwork of a red circle, a dragonfly, and a sensual rear end!
Due to the sudden closure of the small press publishing our anthology, we're looking for a new home!
"Silk and Foxglove" is a BIPOC anthology of 13 stories of erotic-eco-horror! It's weird, gorgeous, evocative, & unnerving as hell!
Please boost! If any small presses are interested, let me know!

Found another one, so I've updated my Pre-Code Lovecraftian Horror Comics page with "The Book of Doom" from Red Dragon #5 (Oct-Nov 1948), which features a familiar book or two, and some familiar names in an incantation.

I was going to send them a pic of my middle finger by way of ID but their stupid verification system doesn't even launch successfully! I am so done with Amazon. Never buy books from them, ever.
Update: seems it's not just my audiobooks. Far as I can tell, Amazon has removed -every single one- of my books from its US store. No notification of it, nothing. And I'm -still- not giving them a photograph of my passport, so if you're American you'll just have to buy them elsewhere.
Hollywood is COOKED
I made this $50,000,000 movie for free using AI
Why AI writing is so generic, boring, and dangerous: Semantic ablation
happy federal raid on Innsmouth day to all who celebrate.
Happy birthday to one of my favourite haters, Charles Darwin
Have just realised Amazon seem to have removed both my audiobooks -- no idea why, or when it happened. Anyway, will need to find somewhere new for them to live, I guess.
I tried to take a photo of a grasshopper on my windshield, but now it looks like a gigantic bug destroying the town.
Really starting to regret embarking on this long-ass short story now. Sooo much work. You buggers had better enjoy it!
