Or life drawing! Just being a creep and sketching people and places in public someplace. Just quick loose gesture sketches or whatever catches your eye. Just something that takes you out of your comfort zone that is fun to do and doesn’t take a lot of time or preparation?

Maybe keep it separate then. Try a small side project that you don’t show anybody. Like draw bad on purpose, or draw only with your non dominant hand. Maybe sculpt something with clay, make a weird collage. Its not gonna solve everything but it could help spark new ways of thinking about your art

And you never have to show anyone either. I think something really important for any kind of creative profession is to maintain a sense of playfulness and curiosity, and its really hard when progress and technical skill feel oppressive. Maybe you need more playtime?

Maybe thats a place to start, finding ways to add more of that energy to your current art. It’s super easy to feel stagnant, maybe try drawing something in a completely different style than usual, or super different colors, or using a medium you haven’t tried before? Super outside your comfort zone

Do you think it is better?

Does looking back on where you were at two years ago vs now help? Or 5 years? Seeing your own progress and appreciating your accomplishments can help reframe the way you look at it. As long as theres continued growth, thats what makes a great artist. Nobody ever reaches the end of learning.

Nobody cares if the output is aesthetically pleasing, because the process, the act itself, the limitation of a single human mind and the resulting creations that capture that one single inimitable human experience... is what makes a creation worth paying attention
